Exploring LGBT lives right now in New York City. Everyday people, extraordinary stories.

Thanks again for your support!
Four decades after the Stonewall riots, life is dramatically different for LGBT people. We used to be identified by our oppression. But who are we now? Are we still a community?
The city that gave birth to the gay movement has changed, too. What are the untold stories of a culture that thrives in every borough and every corner of the city?
QUEER CITY will explore these and other questions through the lives of a diverse group of men and women living in New York City. The film cannot, of course, represent every aspect of LGBT life, and that is not our goal. Rather, the documentary will weave together stories in narrative style, offering a compelling portrait of American lives.
This is a feature-length exploration of the ways we live now. It also offers a glimpse at the future of gay America. The community still contends with villains and fierce opposition, even in the most cosmopolitan of cities, and many bear lasting scars from those conflicts.
QUEER CITY will incorporate both the routine and the extraordinary to create a remarkable chronicle of queer citizens in a time of change. Often hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking, QUEER CITY will introduce you to stories and people you will never forget.
What comes next?
QUEER CITY goes far beyond "talking head" interviews to experience the daily lives of our subjects. We are engaged in the most intimate portion of our filming: going from morning to night, experiencing families and jobs, and observing the routine and amazing in the everyday lives we're following. We are fortunate to have forged strong, trusting relationships with the New Yorkers featured in QC, and you will see some wonderful material from this up-close exploration of Lesbian, Gay, Bi, and Transgender lives.
Who is behind QUEER CITY?
In addition to Director/Producer Draper Shreeve (KIDS OF PENZANCE), our team includes Executive Producer Henry Chalfant (STYLE WARS, FROM MAMBO TO HIP-HOP), Producer Townes Coates, and Associate Producers Christopher Bram, Anna South, and Robert Woodworth.
Why QC on Kickstarter?
Documentaries are often very personal. No one is following a script, there are no rehearsals. For the person in front of the camera and the viewer of the finished film, this honesty and authenticity can be a tremendous experience. Kickstarter is more than a platform; it's a community, a forum that fosters genuine connection, a place where authenticity shows. For all of us working on QUEER CITY, it felt like the perfect match.
We only receive the dollars pledged on Kickstarter if we reach our goal. Your personal commitment and spreading the word about QUEER CITY can make all the difference.
How to stay connected? In addition to milestone updates to our Kickstarter supporters, you can stay engaged with QUEER CITY by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter. We'll be posting clips, bonus material, supporter shout-outs, and other news about the film.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The large majority of those interviewed for QUEER CITY have never been on camera before, and certainly have never shared many of the deeply personal stories that they do. The filmmakers have built relationships of mutual trust over time, so we feel confident that no one feels pressured and that the latter portion of filming -- in which we follow our subjects' lives -- will be even more illuminating.
We have shot almost thirty hours of interview footage, getting to know the people and learning their stories. Your partnership will enable us to follow their daily lives up close and in greater depth, and move into post-production.
No, but your pledge of support is a critical part of taking us through our next phase of filming and moving towards post-production. QC enjoys the support of private funders, foundations, and organizations dedicated to supporting documentary film and helping us share the untold stories of LGBT people. But we only move to the next level with your help. Every pledge matters.
First, Kickstarter is a very safe and secure way to support projects you care about. We know because we've been on the other side as supporters. Three things to remember: 1) You do not have to provide your name or identifying information on a Kickstarter profile; you can be "Jill P" or "Donald" or "A. Toklas" or anything you like; 2) Your credit card will never show what project you supported; and 3) Kickstarter does not post the amount any individual gives (nor would we) and does not send solicitations.
Plus, if you want to decline our "big thanks" on Facebook, etc., just let us know. We'll respect your wishes without question.

We are grateful for your partnership in bringing QUEER CITY to life. You can help us tremendously by spreading the word...email, Facebook, Twitter...in whatever way you keep in touch, tell people about the QC campaign and share a link. Sharing the stories of QUEER CITY is what it's all about.
