The Story of She is...

The Schiff Dance Collective held writing/movement workshops with women from the Denver/Boulder Community ages 20-66.  During these workshops we explored how we defined ourselves as women.  What defines me as a woman? What experiences have shaped this definition? How does it serve me or hold me back? When did I first feel like a woman? Have I been told "no" by anyone because I am a woman? We explored each of these questions and worked toward finding answers that felt empowered and honest to uncover who She is.

During rehearsals over the next four months, Artistic Director, Jenny Schiff and The Schiff Dance Collective will translate information gathered from community workshops into a contemporary dance/spoken word concert. She is... will be presented at The Dairy Center for the Arts on March 1st and 2nd,  2013. 

This performance will allow us to share our process of creating a womanhood we can live in and implore the larger community to ask those questions of themselves. Excerpts will be performed at local schools.

Our Background

Since 2006, The Schiff Dance Collective (TSDC) has been engaging audiences and students throughout Colorado with both their cutting edge contemporary dance works and exceptional dance classes. The concept of infusing dance with humanity in order to successfully speak to the issues at the heart of the public is what drives the work created and classes taught by TSDC.

Since its inception, TSDC has created 7 original evening length works covering subjects such as: addiction, following ones waking dreams, body image, grief, and breaking free of ones personal prison.
Each concert is based on personal stories collected by TSDC from company members and the Denver/Boulder community. These concerts have engaged hundreds of audience members throughout Colorado at The Dairy Center for the Arts, The Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater, Denver School for the Arts, Colorado College, Denver Dance Festival, Shining Stars Foundation, Boulder Creek Festival, Boulder International Fringe Festival, The Mile High Dance Festival, and the Dance is for Everybody Showcase. Excerpts have also been  performed at Boulder Schools.
