Update #23: Time to reveal the next steps :)

Posted on April 16

--->

Dear Friends,

It has been a long time since our last update. The reason for this wasn't that we stopped working on Newsgrape, but rather that we spent the past five months developing what will be our largest leap forward yet.

To be more precise, we've been working on the next phase of the project: A semantic extraction based news reader/crawler, with the aim to deliver a diverse media perspective and change the blogging infrastructure, using an innovative plug-in that allows bloggers to synchronize their content directly with Newsgrape. All of this contributes towards creating a perfect news portal and making reading and discussing news more fun.

During the past months, we've also closed our first actual seed investment round, enabling us to shift gear, increase our team and server architecture and dig into creating awesome software with new and increased efforts.

Last but not least, Leo is about to move to San Francisco for thee months, starting Thursday, to smoothen the launch and our US market entry. Needless to say, if you know any cool people in the Bay Area, Leo would be very grateful for introductions!

If you are interested in a more thorough update, please have a look at this Development Update in English or German!

All the best,

Felix, Leo, Bernhard, Luis and many more

Update #20: Newsgrape Development Update, 20.09.2011 : European Startup Festival

Posted on September 20, 2011

Dear Supporters,

Three months after the launch of the Open Beta Newsgrape is running stable and for the biggest part bug free. We have used the time to implement a number of small improvements in terms of usability, to include a feedback forum,  develop the Promoter, and to improve the efficiency and speed of our server infrastructure considerably - thats something probably everyone has already recognized :)

During the past few weeks, however, it was a bit quiet in terms of new features. The reason: Our participation in the Startup Week 2011 Challenge, where many hundreds of startups from dozens of countries competed for a place on the stage of the European Startup Festival.

Now it's official: Newsgrape is one of the 50 startups that gets to present between the 3rd and 7th of October. And we have though of something special that we're still working on like crazy.

The Startup Week will be held in Vienna and offers a series of focusevents, a great opportunity for everyone to experience new things and expand one's own horizon. "From Dream to Startup" organized by the Dream Academia, on Tuesday, the 4th October in Sektor5 is most certainly worth visiting.

And anyone thinking globally, who has taken an interest in India should visit "The Indian Startup Ecosystem", by Stefan Mey and Wolfgang Bergthaler, but there's also a Techbrunch by Techcrunch, a Facebook Hackathon and much more .

In the heart of the matter:

"A five-day conference with focus on startups from Central and Eastern Europe on stage. Europe's 50 most innovative startups present their business idea Backstage a top investor panel picks the top ten festival feeling with 12 focus. events and 70 internationally-star speakers. "

It is our great pleasure to be able to be part of this conference. At the same time it poses a great challenge and a lot of responsibility, the audience does come from all over the world!

Everyone who is interested still has the opportunity to get one of the last tickets to the conference, otherwise you can still come to the focusevents - who knows, maybe we'll meet up at the brunch? :)

P.s.: You can visit the original post here, and in German.

Best wishes and a lot of fun,

You Newsgrape Team

Additionally we've implemented UserEcho, a feedback tool that offers a simple way to communicate with our users. This way, it has become really easy to make suggestions or report bugs, and allows us to keep in touch with our users.

If you'd like to know more, please have a look at this Development Update, and in German.

the Newsgrape team:

Leo (22) from Germany, currently studying Media and Communication at Goldsmith's in London and Felix from Vienna, Austria (21), who is studying Business-Law at the local university: two students who, after running an online magazine out of creativity, discovered that the sharing and finding of good articles on the web ought to be much simpler and seriously lacked some important features.

To present all the people who have contributed towards Newsgrape would take quite a while.. It was only possible to get that far with the help of dozens of people from all over the place. A full list of all the supporters is displayed in the Credits and I'll just make it short: "Special thanks to our Chief of Technology, Gabor! And to Sean, Emi, Thomas, Verena, Helmut, … alright, just check out the credits!"
