About this project

Sight.Sound.Soul.is designed to bring people together as only art and music can.  Sight.Sound.Soul. removes accessibility barriers and allows an audience with diverse abilities to share a unique and enriching experience.  People who are deaf and those who hear, the blind and the sighted all participate in the creative energy as a painting takes shape on stage while New Orleans jazz pianist Henry Butler soulfully plays his music. American Sign Language, open captioning, audio description, and real time painting engage all of the senses. SightSoundSoul is joyful expression and shared experience - and how cool is that?

VSA Texas and Knowbility have produced Sight.Sound.Soul to great acclaim in several local Austin venues. We are seeking funds to bring this inspiring performance to Albuquerque New Mexico for the Southwest Conference on Disability in October. Attendees to the conference, one of the largest disability conferences in the country, will include hundreds of people with disabilities - just the audience who will most appreciate the full accessibility of this rich sensory experience.

Audio description helps make the painting and the stage come alive for people who are blind. Captioning and American Sign Language interpret the music for people who are deaf while the real time painting accents the music and follows the beat. Video is included below  so that you can see how it all comes together.

We are seeking funds to pay ASL interpreters who specialize in music translation, to pay artist fees, and to pay lodging and airfare.  Over 900 people with the widest range of abilities will attend this conference.  Our goal is to provide a performance event that is fully accessible and that feeds the soul of every person there.  We hope  to create a transformational evening for the attendees, one that will be remembered as one of the rocking-est concerts that Albuquerque has ever experienced and one that will match the soaring energy of the balloon festival that occurs the same week.  We have seen what Sight.Sound.Soul. can do - please help us take it to the Southwest Conference on Disability.

Thank you for your help - we will record the event and recognize everyone who helps us make this dream come true.
