"Animal Shelter Dog Book" uses colorful cartoon characters to entertain kids while promoting the importance of Pet Adoption.
OUR MISSION: According to the ASPCA, 3 to 4 million pets are euthanized in the USA every year. This is something that needs to end. The way to stop this is to build up a culture that looks FIRST at shelters and rescue groups, when getting a new pet. The best way to do this is by teaching kids about the importance of pet adoption.
Our first children's picture book focuses on animal shelter dogs. The goal is to publish a book that will capture kids attention, entertain them, and share a powerful message of pet adoption at the same time.
If this project is successful, we will publish the "Animal Shelter Dog Book" to increase awareness of the homeless pet problem. Daycare centers, preschools, kindergartens, elementary schools, pediatricians offices, and veterinarian offices are just some of the places we hope to place this book.
THE THEMES: This book has two basic themes. 1. Dogs are part of your family (not just pets). 2. Shelter dogs are just like other dogs, they just need a home.
We capture kids attention with bright, colorful, cartoon characters.
At the same time, our focus is to educate as well as "opening the door" to further discussions.
OUR PROJECT: This high quality, hard cover book will have approximately 31 glossy, full-color cartoon pages. Each page will reinforce the overall theme of the book. Shelter dogs are just like other dogs, they just need a home.
In addition, there will be up to 4 pages featuring full color photos of actual adopted animal shelter dogs. This way, at the end of the book, kids can see just how "normal" animal shelter dogs are. This, we believe, will also reinforce the "adopt a dog" theme of the book.
THE MONEY: We hope to raise at least $8975 through Kickstarter. This will allow us to get 100's of copies of this book into circulation. We will use the funds to pay for the intial design, setup, and publishing costs. We will also develop a method for animal rescue supporters to get this book into their local daycares, preschools, kindergartens, pediatrician's offices, etc...
Since Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing funding platform, no "pledged funds" are distributed unless we reach our $8975 goal. Any additional funds raised will allow us to get MORE books into circulation, so they can reach more kids.
Companies selling breakfast cereal and fast food know just how much a family's decisions can be influenced by young children. We want to use the same concept, but in a much more positive direction.
We hope that this book will both educate and influence kids. Maybe if more children are aware of the great dogs available in animal shelters, more families will make shelters their FIRST CHOICE when adding a dog to their family.
We can hope... we can pray... and we can also try to get this important message to as many kids as possible.
