About this project
Freak Owls has been asked to play this year's "Positivus Festival" in Salacgriva, Latvia, on July 15-16, with acts such as Beach House, Editors, Royksopp, Mark Ronson and many more! This is a huge opportunity for us to further our career and continue to do what we love to...play our music to the masses.
The festival promoters were generous to offer us enough of a stipend to fly one of us out there, but we need our fans' help to raise money for just one more. As you know, flying isn't cheap these days, and with our end-of-summer tour, new EP and full-length album on the horizon, we're all tapped out of funds.
We're offering some pretty cool rewards for our backers, as well as free hugs for everyone who donates! Who doesn't like hugs? We're hopeful it won't take very long at all, since the goal is very small, but it will help in such a big way.
The deadline is less than 3 weeks away, and we thank you ahead of time from the bottom of our hearts. We play for our fans, and hope to continue to gain new ones around the world. You're who keep us going, and (as many times as you've no doubt heard it before) we really couldn't do it without you.

Freak Owls was created from the amalgamation of ideas, restlessness, and frustrations of Josh Ricchio. After spending the past 12 years playing and touring in a wide variety of collaborative rock bands (most recently, "Pela", "Ladycop", "The Symphony Case"), the desire to lock himself in a room and write what he calls, "catchiness incarnate" became too great.
Each song, indeed catchier than the last, is textured with over-layering vocal choruses, sparkling acoustics, and Gnarls Barkley-like danceable beats. All at once pulling influences from The Beach Boys, Iron & Wine, Bon Iver, Local Natives and Death Cab For Cutie, "Taxidermy's" songs make you want to curl up to them and sing along at the same time. A very personal and uplifting half hour of smiles and moist eyes, Freak Owls wants to warm the heart and chill the spine.
"Taxidermy" was recorded by Eric Sanderson (Pela, We Are Augustines), and features Kolby Wade, Cody Geil, and Kerry Beach on a variety of sounds, voices and instruments. It was released in March, 2010 on Sing Engine Records.
Songs were recently nominated as finalists for the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, SongCircle's Songwriting Competition and the 100% Music Songwriting Contest, and have also been featured on shows such as "Bad Girls Club Miami" and "Roadtrip Nation".
The band recently returned from a 22-date U.S. tour, and are back in the studio finishing the follow-up EP entitled, "Orchestrates", due this Spring, with a U.S. tour in August and festival dates in the U.K. and Latvia.
