THE STORY
People have shouted it on street corners.
Maybe you were warned in Sunday School.
But it’s true. THE END IS NEAR. And Bram & Ben are ready to milk it for all it’s worth!
Radio and televangelists have warned us all about The Rapture. At the beginning of the final war between Heaven & Hell, all of the ‘good’ people will get sucked up into Heaven body & soul. – And as a result, the only people still on Earth will be the flawed and charmingly immoral characters that make for great entertainment!
In the moment that millions of people disappear in flashes of light, Bram Carlson – a gleefully Bacchanalian hipster – gets Raptured in a clerical error. Now he and his tightly-wound life-long friend, Ben, have all the inside knowledge about the epic days ahead. They waste no time to use the Apocalypse for their own benefit.
INTENT
Tackling a major modern mythology from a uniquely fresh, outsider’s angle – The Life & End Times of Bram & Ben dives into the prophesized Apocalypse that has held American’s imagination repeatedly – from The Book of Revelation to Stephen King’s The Stand. Our approach is playfully irreverent and imaginative – not an attempt to just shock and offend. (Think Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens) The Rapture has become a part of our American mythos – but no one has really showed us how much fun it can be. Until now.
WHAT YOUR $$$ GOES TOWARD
The long story short is, it takes much, much longer to illustrate a comic than it does to write one. In particular, Remus (our artist) puts an INCREDIBLE amount of time and skill into his work. He has agreed to do this 120+ page project in a timely manner -- but he needs to be able to pay for things like rent and food while he does it. (And we are taking him away from illustration and design jobs that would pay MUCH better than what we can offer him - but he is truly passionate about this project.) Jim & James are taking NO MONEY WHATSOEVER for their writing or expenses on this project. We just really, and truly want to get this unique comic out into the world.
In the end, Jim & James will still be paying some of Remus' basic overhead - as well as costs for lettering, printing, and all the other business of actually finishing a comic. (Unless you guys go crazy and donate, like, $9,000.) But your help is essential to ensure that we can actually afford to execute this at a level of quality the comics industry simply demands.
