About this project
It has been three years since the collapse of the American economy, and yet the Wall Street gamblers responsible for the mess remain unpunished, the mechanisms that allowed the financial sector to run wild are still in place, and those of us in the bottom 99% continue to feel the pain.
As of September 17, we are no longer silent.
Occupy Wall Street and the protests that it inspired have already changed the discourse in this country. Long neglected issues of economic inequality are now at center stage. We finally have the megaphone, and we cannot let this opportunity pass us by. "The 99%'s Guide to the Current Clusterf#*k" will provide a primer on how the economy arrived in such dire straits and a rundown of proposed ideas for creating a more equitable future, be they policy tweaks or broad systemic shifts in the way we handle wealth and economic justice. Further, it will provide protesters with tips on effectively navigating news reporters, a list of suggested reading, and a "Know Your Rights" section.
We will distribute approximately 1,000 copies of the booklet at the Zuccotti Park--the site of the occupation--and at related events and marches. The anger and frustration that have lingered for too long in our hearts and in our minds is finally crystallizing into a movement. Your donation will provide information to the activists and the everyday people taking a stand in New York City. You can help push the passion that is gathering on the streets into the country's boardrooms and legislatures.
We are the 99%! Let's create the future we deserve!
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who helped us reach our $800 goal! You've totally inspired us. And to those of you who are still interested in donating: please do! The more funds we raise, the more copies of "The 99%'s Guide" we can print!FAQ
