Update #2: WE DID IT! THANK YOU!
By now, most of you know my Appalachian Trail hike has been funded, thanks to all of you. This has been at once an affirming and humbling experience. One of the greatest challenges of hiking the Trail was going to be being able to pay for it. And while $3,000 may seem like a relatively small amount for being away from home and work for 5 to 6 months, it is pretty hefty when you start from scratch. It feels incredible to have met that challenge, and with the help of so many. This website says there are 39 backers, but there were more who gave in person by check or by chipping in a few bucks out of their pocket (we added these to Tara's contribution), bringing the toal to more than 50. That's 50+ people representing family, friends, colleagues, and a few people who I have never met, or who don't know me except for the video here. I will be thinking of all of you every day on the Appalachian Trail. When I'm facing those hard stretches of rough terrain or inclement weather (or both), and the doubts about continuing forward start to creep into my subconscious, I will remember everyone who helped make it possible. I have no doubt that will see me through to the end. Finally, it is important to acknowledge the effect of sharing my story. Spreading the word is what got this project across the finish line. It is what got it in front of people who otherwise would not have known about it. Thank you for helping put it all together in that way as well.
