With just one week left, we invite those of you who live in the Bay Area and haven't made it yet to join us at Thick House (1695 18th St. SF) for our final performances. AJ BAKER'S THE RIGHT THING
Don't miss the world premiere of the play that SF Examiner critic Jean Schiffman lauds as “…an intriguing tale of high-level greed, ruthlessness and moral bankruptcy that keeps us guessing, as new allegations and secrets are gradually revealed, and iffy new strategies plotted.. . . Credit playwright AJ Baker, powerhouse actor Catherine Castellanos as the train wreck of a central character and the rest of the able cast, plus director Suze M. Allen, with keeping me tuned in throughout. Also credit the audacity of brand-new 3Girls Theatre Company for hitting the ground running with this smart world premiere, plus another main stage production and several weeks of staged readings.” Read more great press here. FINAL PERFORMANCES FRIDAY, MARCH 30 AND SATURDAY MARCH 31 @ 8 PM; SUNDAY APRIL 1 @ 4 PM. Buy your tickets here.
LEE BRADY'S WHAT ABOUT BEN
The tale of Coralynn, a feisty, folk-singing widow in the Berkeley Hills unfolds during a magical hour of storytelling and original song featuring Marie Shell (accompanied by Eric Lenchner) at her most engaging! You'll walk out with a song on your lips. . . . and in your heart. More information here. FINAL PERFORMANCES THURSDAY MARCH 29 @ 7:30 PM AND SUNDAY APRIL 1 @ 7PM. Buy your tickets here.
Update #9: THE VERDICT IS IN: “THE RIGHT THING” IS THE RIGHT THING!
Hi Kickstarters!
We wanted to share our excitement about the great press we're getting for our inaugural production of AJ Baker's THE RIGHT THING! Here's what the critics are saying about our "smart world premiere" and its amazing cast:
"…an intriguing tale of high-level greed, ruthlessness and moral bankruptcy that keeps us guessing, as new allegations and secrets are gradually revealed, and iffy new strategies plotted."
“Credit playwright AJ Baker, powerhouse actor Catherine Castellanos as the train wreck of a central character and the rest of the able cast, plus director Suze M. Allen, with keeping me tuned in throughout. Also credit the audacity of brand-new 3Girls Theatre Company for hitting the ground running with this smart world premiere, plus another main stage production and several weeks of staged readings.” -- Jean Schiffman, SF Examiner
“AJ Baker's new drama takes issues of sexual politics and power in its high-powered setting and cracks them against the everyday familial and social dynamics that are perhaps a casualty of the corporate ethos… Director Suze M. Allen assembles a generally strong cast (Catherine Castellanos is riveting throughout), and some scenes smolder with just the right teeth-baring tension…” -- Robert Avila, SF Bay Guardian
“The play tells the truth about being a woman in a male-dominated workplace, while dissecting the inner workings of what feels like a real life legal dispute. ..the fireball of the show was spunky-punk Sam (Karina Wolfe.) With a red head of hair and serious Madonna lace gloves, Wolfe's character brought something colorful and quirky to the world of ‘executive Barbies.’” -- Ariel Soto-Suver, SF Bay Guardian Online
"[Playwright AJ Baker] knew what she was doing by writing “The Right Thing”, an 85 minute drama about sexual harassment in the corporate world."
"A lot is going on in this fast paced drama that is set in a series of box sets on a three level stage and you have to keep your mind moving to follow the action . . . . The drama does keep you guessing as new accusations and conundrums are revealed. Catherine Castellanos is excellent as the boozy Zell Gardner." --Richard Connema, BATCC, For All Events.
Our run must close on April 1! If you live in the SF Bay Area and haven't seen it yet, don't take any chances on missing the exciting original drama your Kickstarter dollars helped produce! Buy your tickets now!

Update #8: KALW INTERVIEW AIRS AGAIN AT 8:50 AM PST TUESDAY 3/6
We love the 6 minute interview with all three of us that aired Monday 3/5 during Crosscurrents, the Bay Area arts and culture show on San Francisco public radio station KALW! Apparently the editors agree because it's airing again tomorrow morning on KALW 91.7 FM at 8:50 AM, right before Terry Gross. You can listen to it on the web (or download the podcast) at kalw.org or on the radio, but either way we think you'll enjoy it as much as we did. The reporter really "got" what 3GT is doing. Very cool -- and couldn't be more timely with Opening Weekend rapidly approaching. Check it out!
Update #7: OPENING NIGHT OF THE RIGHT THING SOLD OUT!
Hi Kickstarters!
IT'S HEEEEEEERE! With only 6 days until the official opening of our Celebration of Women's HIstory Month, we're thrilled to pass on the news that Opening Night of AJ Baker's THE RIGHT THING is completely sold out! As you can imagine everyone here at the Company is working around the clock to make it all happen and get people out to the theatre. With 13 performances of THE RIGHT THING, 4 performances of Lee' Brady's WHAT ABOUT BEN?, and 6 count'em 6 readings . . . . plus our gala opening day party on Sunday March 11 and our playwrights' forum on March 26 . . . . we are looking for as much buzz as possible. And to our great good fortune, we're getting it. Here's just some of what's happening:
- TUNE IN TO "CROSSCURRENTS" ON KALW FM AT 5 PM ON MONDAY MARCH 5! Crosscurrents is the daily news magazine from KALW Public Radio. Journalist Artjoms Konohovs visited with the 3Girls and took in a rehearsal of THE RIGHT THING. His feature piece will be on air and posted as a podcast and article online, along with pictures of our cast in action.
- READ THE COVERAGE IN SF WEEKLY. SF Weekly theatre critic and reporter Lily Janiak interviewed AJ, Suze and Lee about 3Girls Theatre, our Celebration of Women's History Month, and our mission. Look for her piece in next week's hard copy issue and on-line.
- WE'RE AN EDITOR'S PICK FOR THEATRE BAY AREA. TBA Associate Editor Caroline Anderson chose THE RIGHT THING as one of her "editor's picks" in the March-April Spring Season Preview issue. You can read her write-up, and also see our whole calendar listed, in both the hard copy and online issue of TBA Magazine for March.
- WE'LL BE ON ABC/KGO TV'S "7 LIVE" PROGRAM WITH BRIAN COPELAND ON MARCH 13 AT 3 PM! We've been invited to participate as the "Voicebox" interactive audience which includes on air and online support for 3GT and our March events. You can listen to the program live or on the web, and you can also join us as members of the studio audience. Email AJ as soon as possible if you want to be a part of this truly exciting event.
But we can't rest on our laurels. We need you, our loyal backers, to make our first season a success. If you're in the Bay Area, buy your tix now so we know when to expect you. Make plans to come to our fantastic gala Opening Weekend Party on Sunday March 11. And wherever you are, spread the word about your support for this spunky grassroots theatre start-up that aims to put women's work on stage, where it belongs! Like us on Facebook, tweet about us, forward our emails (including this one) and pass on our beautiful downloadable calendar to your friends.
SEE YOU AT THICK HOUSE IN JUST A FEW DAYS!

Update #6: 3GT BEHIND THE SCENES PODCAST: A CONVERSATION ABOUT MAKING NEW PLAYS
HI KICKSTARTER BACKERS--
We haven't forgotten you! With just 3 weeks left before 3GT'S CELEBRATION OF WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH takes flight, things are getting very exciting and there's lots of info to share. But first, check out our behind the scenes podcast here. In anticipation of the world premiere of her play THE RIGHT THING, 3GT Managing Director and Resident Playwright AJ Baker sat down with cast members CATHERINE CASTELLANOS and LOUIS PARNELL to talk about the joys (and risks) of making new plays, their long theatre friendship, and why creating a role that no other actor has done before requires "muscularity." It would take pages to list all of the awards and acclaim these two superstar actors/directors/teachers have amassed over the years, and their insights about the process are fascinating.
If you're in San Francisco during March, we can't wait to greet you at Thick House, 1695 18th Street, on Potrero Hill. The 3GT CELEBRATION OF WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH festival runs from March 8 through April 1, with 8 different productions by 8 different women playwrights in all stages of development -- women's work on stage, where it belongs! We've embedded a visual summary of the festival below, but you can download the full calendar, read all the details and buy tickets on the website.
And make sure to join us for our OPENING WEEKEND PARTY on March 11 from 4-7 pm. It's going to be an incredible afternoon, featuring an on-stage "City Arts and Lectures"-type conversation with renowned Bay Area playwright Claire Chafee (WHY WE HAVE A BODY), an art opening of unique mixed-media works by two women artists, Susanna Baker and Rachel Leibman, and the engaging piano music of Joshua Raoul Brody. Plus, of course, the party refreshments 3Girls Theatre is famous for! It's our chance to finally thank our supporters-- and welcome you all to the 3GT community--- in person.
It's all happening!!!! See you at the show!

Project By
Has not connected their Facebook account.
Founded by playwrights Suze Allen, AJ Baker and Lee Brady, 3Girls Theatre Company aims to "put women’s work on stage. . . where it belongs." The founders were inspired by a desire to have control over their own work and by the discouraging data showing that the tiny percentage of works by women produced in the mainstream American theatre today is roughly the same as it was a hundred years ago. 3GT's not interested in debating the politics of this problem. We’re just interested in solving it!
