About this project
LAST CALL! HELP US REACH OUR STRETCH GOAL OF $13,500 BY MIDNIGHT ON DECEMBER 17.
Thanks to the enthusiastic and generous response of our early Kickstarter backers, our stretch goal – to start our 2012 Celebration of Women’s History Month in the black – is actually within reach! We're thrilled to have met our "all or nothing goal" to pay the rent and with your help, 3Girls Theatre will be able to focus on bringing you compelling theatre during our inaugural season in March, rather than on fundraising and fretting over ticket sales. Thank you for taking our campaign to heart and continuing to spread the word!
Here are some of the fantastic 3GT artistic endeavors that meeting our Kickstarter "stretch" goal of at $13,500 by December 17 will make possible during our residency at SF's Thick House:
A full production of the world premiere of AJ Baker’s THE RIGHT THING starring Catherine Castellano, Louis Parnell, Helen Shumaker, Lol Levy, John Flanagan, and Karina Wolfe. When a woman CEO gets fired from her powerful job on allegations of sexual harassment, she fights back in a high-stakes mediation. Corporate back-stabbing, sexual shenanigans and personal secrets unfold to produce an explosive day of behind-the-scenes machinations in this provocative twist on a legal whodunit. You’ll swear there are as many versions of “the right thing” as there are players on the stage. Directed by Suze Allen.
An all- new production of Lee Brady's WHAT ABOUT BEN?, with original songs by Marie Shell. The story of Coralynn, a one-named folk singer and feisty widow who travels from bad times in Oklahoma to good times in the Berkeley Hills. Inspired by real-life folk singer, LaWanda, the story takes off when Coralynn’s architect-husband, Ben, dies and a sexy tree-trimmer named Jose enters her life. Can she move him into the house that Ben built? The venerable Marie Shell stars in this one-woman show.
A staged reading of Suze Allen’s SAVING ANDREA, a memory play and fictional account of the retrial of Andrea Yates, the Texas woman who drowned her five children, featuring Suze Allen, Randi Merzon, Dennis McIntyre and Rick Paxson.
Staged readings of NOT WITHOUT OUR WOMEN, a new musical play by Associate Playwright Patricia Milton, Andrew Black and Caroline Altman.
A dazzling variety of developmental readings of new plays by our Associate Playwrights Mary Knoll, Lynne Kaufman, Margery Kreitman and Robin Bradford.
Plus we’ve got some very special events in the works, including our New Playwrights Symposium, 3GT Arts Forum with a special guest playwright, 3Girls Theatre Lab playwrighting intensives and the opening of a one woman show by mixed media artist Susanna Baker. Throw in a few 3Girls style galas (featuring music by some of our famous hometown musicians, Joshua Raoul Brody and Ned Boynton) and it’s going to be a celebration of women’s history month like San Francisco’s never seen before!
It's not too late to be a part of our mission, our new company and our Premiere Season by making your tax-deductible donation BY DECEMBER 17. . The 3GT community embraces everyone -- from the SF Bay Area and beyond -- who shares our goal of promoting diverse women's voices on the American stage. GO GIRLS -- AND THE BOYS WHO LOVE THEM-- GO!
Our Story: 3Girls Theatre Company (founded by Suze Allen, AJ Baker and Lee Brady) is a brand new not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to producing the work of women playwrights. Did you know that recent surveys tell us that the small percentage of works by women produced in the mainstream American theatre today is roughly the same as it was a century ago -- less than twelve percent?! Being women playwrights ourselves, we knew things were tough. . . but this fact astonished and appalled us so much that we were motivated to start our own company. At 3Girls Theatre, we're not interested in debating the politics of how we got here. We're just interested in solving the problem by putting women's work on stage, where it belongs.
Our Mission: to produce the work of women playwrights who write fresh, compelling and entertaining plays, and to promote the involvement of women and girls in American theatre. To achieve our mission, we'll produce new works written by company members, develop emerging women writers through our 3GT Theatre Lab, and nurture the female playwrights of tomorrow in our after-school program, Go Girl! Theatre. Every other year, we'll aso run a national new play competition for women. We know there are so many of you out there around the country who share our desire to hear more women's voices -- of all ages and opinions -- at the theatre.

Founded by playwrights Suze Allen, AJ Baker and Lee Brady, 3Girls Theatre Company aims to "put women’s work on stage. . . where it belongs." The founders were inspired by a desire to have control over their own work and by the discouraging data showing that the tiny percentage of works by women produced in the mainstream American theatre today is roughly the same as it was a hundred years ago. 3GT's not interested in debating the politics of this problem. We’re just interested in solving it!
