About this project

I've been writing popular short essays for over a decade. My work has appeared in The Economist, The Washington Post, BusinessWeek, Harvard Business, The New York Times, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Wired magazine, and many pieces have been popular online for years.

In my upcoming book Mindfire, for the first time I've put together a definitive, best of collection of my short work.  The book's theme is intelligent provocation. Inspired by what Voltaire, Emerson and Thoreau did for their day, I'm taking up the charge in the present. These are big ideas, expressed with passion, humor and concision.

While you can likely find these essays online, they've been revised edited, cleaned, and carefully curated together for the best possible reading experience, one impossible to get online. This is the best material and format for exploring how I think about life and the world.

If you've read one of my books, and wanted to see me apply that same mind to wider territory, this is the book for you.

The book is set to officially launch the first week in October, 2011.

I'm proud to offer this as my first self published book. I hope you'll put your name down as a supporter to ensure you get the book as soon as its out, and to signify you'd like to see me continue to produce more good works in the future.

Thanks for all your support.

If you want to make sure you're notified when the book is out join this list.

FAQ

  • I've been writing for over a decade - nearly 1200 articles, essays and short works. This is the definitive collection of my best, compiled into a curated, loved, delicious to read edition. While you can find many of these works on the web, you won't find them in a form as easy to read and carefully edited as Mindfire.

  • The book includes references and background on each essay that's not available anywhere else. In addition there's an epilogue explaining my writing process, my inspirations, where the title came from and other behind the scenes details.

As you've come to expect, there is also an entertainingly bizzare and entirely new colophon experience

  • Yes. I know I want to write books it will be hard to find publishers for. I decided to self publish this book so I can learn how to do it myself, both for my own authorial aspirations but so I can teach others how to self publish too.
