If you want to learn about movies, why not learn from the best?
UPDATE MAY 30
9 days to go and we've already surpassed our goal! Help us get closer to our ultimate goal of $20,000 and donate. Any amount helps. :)
UPDATE MAY 18
It's hard to believe we reached half of our minimum goal in the first six days. Now, a few days later, we're at a total of $3,301 with a Dollar for Dollar campaign running until May 25. We're so grateful to our incredible donors who have been so supportive and can't wait to reach our ultimate goal of $20,000, which gets more realistic with each day.
We've been setting up interviews and demonstrations with several iconic filmmakers and can't wait to announce our summer line-up as soon as we get confirmation.
Be sure to watch for our SUPER PERKS for the duration of the campaign. What is a SUPER PERK? A SUPER PERK is an extra little something for people who donate the stated amount within a 24 hour period. We have some really great SUPER PERKS coming up, so be sure to keep your eyes open!
At Spinning Owls Productions, we love movies and the peple who make them. Making movies is a team effort. Just look at the credits. Studio films often have hundreds of people working on a film. What do they all do? What is their role and how do they do it? Who are these people who make up the film industry?
oOwl Film is a unique webseries that offers a behind-the-scenes look into the lives and craft that go into making great cinema. Whether you love films, are an aspiring filmmaker, or have been in the business for a long time, you will enjoy meeting iconic filmmakers who will share their stories and demonstrate their craft. Ultimately, this collection will be used to educate aspiring filmmakers and entertain those who love film, while preserving the history of today's film industry.
Our first interview will be with famed negative cutter Mo Henry after she finishes cutting The Dark Knight Rises. This will not only be her last film but also the last studio film to ever cut negative. In the interview, Mo will explain her unique job then take the oOwl team into the lab to walk us through the entire process from beginning to end. And since Mo has more feature film credits than anyone else in the history of the film industry... expect some great stories.
Our second interview will be with Dean Cundey, ASC, who is one of the most prolific cinematographers in the history of the film industry. Some of his best known films include Halloween, Jurassic Park, Apollo 13, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and Back to the Future.
We want to make these great stories and insights available to everyone everywhere, so will be offering 15-20 minute versions of both the interviews and demonstrations online for free. For those interested in a particular person or craft, full-length episodes for interviews and/or demonstrations will be available for a low pay-per-view price.
Our goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000 with an ultimate goal of $20,000 to shoot the first few interviews - enough content to approach advertisers for future interviews.
So how we will use the money we raise? The oOwl team is doing everything we can to keep costs low, from getting great deals from vendors to setting up sponsorships. But there are some costs we can't avoid, like light and camera rentals, locations, permits, and paying a crew to insure the highest quality content. Plus, the more we raise, the more interviews we can film.
Here's how can you help. Make a donation. Even small ones help. Then invite your friends. The more people who contribute, the faster we will get to our goal. Once we reach $5,000, the oOwl team will start creating interviews and demonstrations with the best filmmakers in Hollywood.
We also need an audience. Since oOwl Film will rely on advertising to continue sharing interviews and demonstrations for free, building an audience is crucial. Even if you can't donate, please follow us on our various social media sites, spread the word and pass this campaign along to all the movie lovers you know.
We appreciate your support, and look forward to sharing our first interview with you in June!
