Our friends over at Build it Green have given us a generous LUMBER donation through their Big Blooms Program. Huzzah! The lumber in question is all reclaimed from scaffolding from building sites, and we'll use in order to build new, raised garden beds. 

A bit about this amazing organization- Build it Green is NYC's ONLY non-profit retail outlet for salvaged and surplus building materials. Their warehouses have everything from vintage, hard-wood doors, to high end refrigerators, to shutters, to cast iron sinks, to movie props. They keep materials out of the landfill, while offering recycled materials on the cheap. FUN FACT- Did you know that over 19,000 tons of building material are thrown out every day in New York City? EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're expecting a delivery any day now and that's when I'll rent a U-haul and drag it on home. This untreated pine will have to be sanded, cut to size, and then assembled. So look forward to some real-deal construction days. I'll, of course, keep you updated. 

For the construction itself, we're on the hunt for cordless power tools- sanders, drills, and saws. Let me know if you have any and are willing to lend a few, or lend a hand!
