Why Do We Care and Why Should You
Like many of you, we consume liquids everyday to survive and we often do it out of cups. Unfortunately, this simple act can have some serious consequences... the indiscriminate use of throwaway plastic cups (the red cup). Until recently, we thought we were doing our part to preserve the planet by recycling the used cups. Then we learned that the red cup is made out of polystyrene, which is unfortunately the same petroleum based plastic used to make Styrofoam. Guess what?! For economic reasons, polystyrene is generally not recycled!!! In the US alone, it is estimated that over 24 billion single use plastic cups wind up in landfills every year or worse yet, floating in our oceans. As it turns out, we weren't doing our part for the environment, we were just filling up the landfills. So we decided to do something...
How Did We Get Here
On the last day of a long bachelor party we endeavored to play some more beer pong. Unfortunately, our entire supply of red cups ended up in the trash. We were shocked. We had used 200 red cups in just one weekend! Needless to say, we were appalled at the thought. That’s when we had the epiphany, we can produce a high quality stainless steel beer pong set that people can use again and again with no waste, although if you're not good at the game you may still end up wasted...
How Can You Help Us
Well, we made the beer pong set and it's awesome! However, the cup we designed for the beer pong set is the perfect cup for all occasions and the vast majority of plastic cups are used for occasions other than beer pong. The positive response to the cup has been overwhelming as have the expenses associated with starting a new business. We want to market our cup as a retainable™ alternative to single use plastic cups. For that, we will need your financial help.
Where We Are Today
We have gone as far as our bank accounts and credit cards can take us.

- We have a primary and back up supplier
- The tooling and mold are paid for
- Sample cups have been received, tested, debugged and approved
- Cup printing has been tested and refined
- Our logos and slogans have been trademarked
- Our patent is pending for the beer pong set
What Your Help Will Do
- Purchasing economies of scale. To keep our product costs at an economically feasible level, our production orders need to be in the 10's of thousands. We need your help to place an order of that size...
- Permanent facilities. We have been operating in borrowed facilities that aren't nearly adequate for our needs. Like the landfills, we are overflowing...
- Your pledges will go directly towards shipping, packaging, and logistics in general. Our goal is to use only recycled paper products. Also, stainless steel, due to its weight, is not cheap to ship.
- Your help will get us over these initial hurdles.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Starting a business and developing a product is definitely a challenge. No matter how hard you try, you're not likely to anticipate all the potential problems that can arise. The solution is realizing in advance that adverse situations are going to happen; just make sure you leave time (and emotional fortitude) to work through them.
Because we have invested in this project heavily ourselves in both time and dollars, the initial design work is done and the rather lengthy trial and error process with our suppliers, printers and logistics has been completed. That being said, there is still a risk that a large production run could take longer than anticipated or the percent of unacceptable product is so great that we can't deliver on time.
Stainless Cups Company consists of four long time family friends. Two alumni from University of Southern California, one from University of California Berkeley and one from California State University Long Beach. Combined we have 40 years experience in manufacturing, marketing, finance, distribution and sales. With your help and contributions, we will have everything we need to go into production. There will be bumps in the road but rest assured all of us at Stainless Cups Company will be doing everything we can to make the most of your generosity while ensuring the fulfillment of all the commitments we have made.
