About this project

VERSES is the debut full-length effort from Texas singer-songwriter Zach Balch. The project has been years in the making, with constant sculpting and editing, and the destruction and rebirth of many thoughts and ideas.  We are so close to the end, but the final pieces lay ahead of us.  I now reach out to you, dear friends and family, to partner with us in delivering a message that is clearly more important than I am; a message I could never deliver on my own.  I can't give away too many secrets about this thing, but if you've like to hear a little of what we've done so far, please visit our website at www.zachbalch.com

While the recording process is nearing an end, the first bill is quickly approaching.  We are still in need of financial assistance in order to have the record mixed, mastered, and distributed, along with taking care of everyone who has sacrificed so much to make this happen so far.

There are so many wonderful people involved in this process: Band members Ryan Pool (keys) and Aaron Hass (drums), musicians Chris Balch (guitar) and Joy Harris (bass guitar), vocalist Katie Howell, Producer Scott Faris, and a childhood friend of mine, Patrick Graf, who is engineering the project.

I cannot begin to tell you how difficult this journey has been thus far.  Not only are miles hard, but the Spiritual battle we fight over where, and from whom, we seek validation is weighing heavily on the way we perform our instruments.  There is a constant voice that  says "you aren't good enough."  This voice can be overwhelming at times, but thankfully, there is a deep place from which we derive great strength and perseverance that allows us to dry the tears, stretch the fingers, and just play the parts.

If you cannot support this project financially, please help us by spreading the word to those you know that may be able to pitch in.  As well as the website mentioned above, you can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Noisetrade.com.

Thank you all for your continued support over the years!  I am indebted to each of you.

Zach

“When West Texas is in your blood, songwriting arrives like rows of cotton and Bible-belt Choruses”, says Zach Balch, a native of Levelland, a small town whose name holds no secrets. Born on Elvis’ 50th, graduate of Buddy Holly’s alma mater, and the grandson of a lifelong pianist and music educator, Zach cannot escape the influence that contemporary music has on his life. “As a kid, my grandmother would mash my fingers between hers and the piano keys trying to teach me to play”, he says. “I swore I would never play again, but when I see her now it’s my favorite thing to do with her.”

Now living in Denton, TX, Zach says “you have to notice the little things and create great stories out of them.” His songs are simple and honest, and he says they all come down to two things: love and spirituality, which he believes are the only two truths. “Everyone on Earth is searching for these two truths. I’ve been lucky to find out that they are the same thing.”

Since partnering with piano genius and all-around-nice-guy Ryan Pool in 2007, the two have pursued various avenues of musical styles, including blues, folk, pop, spiritual, and even the occasional light rock, before honing in on what listeners could only describe as Alternative Country, a la Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn. While the duo swore they would never be labeled as such, no one could deny their influence of southern Americana and folk.

Zach and Ryan are currently working on their debut full-length album, “Verses,” due to release this March. Produced by Scott Faris, of Fariswheel Productions and the Amusement Park Studio in Lubbock, TX, and featuring performances by Katie Howell, Joy Harris, Chris Balch, and Dallas’ own Aaron Hass.

You can hear the first three singles of their newest venture at zachbalch.com, reverbnation.com/zachbalch, or catch them at a live show in your neighborhood.
