Kickstarter

I am Amy Cakes, a senior in the Integrated Design program at Parsons The New School for Design. For my thesis, I will explore persona and identity (sexuality/gender, mood, race, profession, etc.) through in depth research and first hand interviews. Themes and ideas will be extracted from these interviews and used to create a collection of garments. These garments will relate to each other, but also draw upon significance of that specific persona. The end result will be a presentation event of the people I have interviewed wearing and interacting in these garments in a landscape installation that displays these personae to the viewer in an imagined habitat. Some of these personae will perform at different times throughout the event to show their work (music, dance, lip sync, poetry, speech... anything!) and how it relates to their persona and identity. This project will be developed from September 2012 to the time of the event in May 2013. (That is why I put the rewards date in June/July 2013 so I will have plenty of time to get them out to you.)

I'm asking you for help in funding the materials that I need to complete this project. I am a thrifty person, but this project will still require a hefty amount of materials for the garments and installation. Any of the leftover funds will go towards the space for the event in May.
I am also looking for sponsors to help with costs of the space or materials. Below are possible sponsorships that I am looking for in creating my collection and for the event in May.

- textiles, thread, notions, yarn, etc. (also any odd materials; synthetic hair, plastic chord, fake fur, glitter, plastic upholstery, beads...)
- shoes for use during the event
- wood and other hardware
- plants (fake or real)
- a space in Manhattan for the final presentation (ideally a gallery, simple white room setting)
- sound and lighting equipment
- drinks (regular and alcoholic)
- candy or other foods
- foundations/brands/anything related to persona and identity
