A REAL CHECK....OR CHECK ON REALITY
As much as I would love to stay in a well lit closet and paint. That is only half of my job. To not have the ability to continue my artistic work, would best be compared with slowly suffocating.
After recently receiving the first regional Master Artist Award, which helped me to purchase some supplies and rent a small studio, it became apparent that I would need to find the means to support myself as an artist as I will no longer be eligible for regional grants or awards.
While still raising 5 children at home, and the oldest in her first year of college, it is also very clear, that I cannot afford to meld myself into a society where artists live in my dreams,.. a sluggish economy doesn't do wonders for being self employed glamorous septic service either.
This project, is largely about just that.
Creating a measurable means of supporting myself as an artist while enabling myself to continue on this creative path. If I am unable to achieve this goal... as hard as it would be...I can't afford to keep on, though my heart would say I can't afford to let my dream go.

I am an artist without professional training, as well as a mother of 6... My oldest in her first year of college (in an arts related field), the rest are still in public school on down to 3rd grade.
Growing up in the sticks isn't necessarily a bonus for kids interested in the arts, though I was fortunate in many ways. Above all, I am most thankful for and will never forget, is that parents my gave me the freedom and power to believe.
My exposure to the arts as a child was simply a Norman Rockwell book... I want the children in our rural community to have first hand access. How is it known if there is a Van Gogh quietly sitting in the corner of the classroom, and will that child ever get the chance to discover their gift? A potential dream studio is only 3 blocks from the school with gallery room to host class tours, art walks, as well as workshops, and plenty of space to work!
Blessed in being able to move a rock at a time, I would forever be thankful if you would help me move mountains.
