A dark and twisted sci-fi action platformer that keeps you engaged until the bitter end.
Hi everyone from N-Gon games! Thank you for taking the time to look at our project, REND. We can't tell you how excited we are to be doing this. This will be our companies first large scale project. We hope to bring it to the masses (IOS, Android, PC, Steam, etc.) and that being said we would also like thank you for any and all contributions to this project in advance!
So what is project REND? It's an amazing game with a full, rich story, and meaningful decision making which makes for a unique playthrough experience each time. That gives us a little more detail, but what kind of game is it? Well it's a sci-fi action platformer that uses high contrast black and white imagery to enhance gameplay, the world and story. Now we know what type of game it is, and we know that action-platformers come in all varieties, and that's why the artists of REND have worked their hardest to make this game a very unique experience for all types of players. How do we plan to do this you ask? Well you can watch our video and we'll tell you or you can just scroll down a bit further and take a nice read of some of the interesting things we have come up with.
One of our design goals for Rend was making sure the player was constantly engaged with enemies. So we did a few things to help encourage this. The first thing we did was make a unique health gain and loss system we dubbed the stance system.The player can switch between a defensive stance and offensive stance while fighting their way through the game. While in the defensive stance the player will gain vitality (max hit points) every time a successful attack is made on an enemy, but at the cost of losing health (hit points) when damaged. While in offensive stance the player will gain health every time a successfully attack is made on an enemy, but at the cost of losing vitality when damaged.
The second thing we did to reward the player for engaging enemies is the peptide mutation tree. Whenever an enemy is killed the player will absorb peptides that can be spent on advancing different properties of rend.
Rend will give it's players what is referred to as a parallel narrative structure. This narrative structure allows our player's to have agency within the world. For the people who are not used to some of the terminology being used, agency is the capacity of which a person may effect their surrounding world. Therefore the team has created many instances throughout the game where a player may feel agency.
We don't want to give much away with the story. Part of the fun is exploring the world we built and discovering the story for yourself, but we don't want you walking around blind ether.
First and foremost this needs to be said before we go any further together. REND is not a hero, he's not dark, anti or any other type you can think of. REND is out for numero uno. There will be no princesses at the end waiting for a knight in shining armor ether. There will be evil bosses and such because what other kind of bosses would you want to beat up?
So what can we tell you? For one thing the current planet your on is a desolate place with hordes of enemies just waiting to get you. That's why REND is not a hero out to save anything/ anyone because there is nothing left to save. It's an every "thing" for itself world out there and REND is no exception to that rule.
