Bright colored skinny jeans, hip-hop influences, and indie-rock music together explore the mentality and ultimate reality of a hipster.
Kelsey Brikis, the choreographer of "Contrarily We Roll Along," and her dancers, are asking for your help in funding their latest endeavor. The piece, originally performed in New York City as part of Kelsey's graduate studies at New York University, has been selected as a finalist for the International Choreography Competition at the Jazz Dance World Congress this summer, which celebrates the uniquely American art form of jazz dance and affords aspiring artists the opportunity to "kick-start" their careers as professional choreographers.
About JDWC: The Congress gathers dancers, teachers, and performers from across the United States and from as many as 20 foreign countries. At the Congress, these jazz dance enthusiasts take classes from world-class Master Teachers, see performances by internationally-acclaimed dance companies, witness the competitive judging of new jazz dance choreography (in which we will be performing with your help!), and participate in formal panel discussions.
Registration fees are required to participate in the International Choreography Competition. With your help, we can participate in this cutting edge dance experience and mold the future of jazz dance with our unique take on concert dance. Kelsey and her dancers send huge hugs and a big THANK YOU in advance for your support!!
Dancers for the 2012 JDWC are: Angela Essler, Alyssa Giugliano, Lori Incardona, Hannah Lamberto, Megan McGlennen, Renee Smith, and Jillian Ranker.
