About this project

The Knights love to delve deeply into classical music and come up with new, unique visions for the musical works. We thrive on challenging ourselves, and finding an original, honest interpretation of an iconic piece like Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is an exciting endeavor! (Everybody knows the beginning of it, even if they don't know that they do.)

We have the opportunity to record Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 for Sony Classical this January. Recordings are "time capsules" of past traditions; each captures a performance at a very specific place and moment in time. Help us imprint The Knights on this classic and make it available for young, old, current and future listeners. The CD will also introduce us to new cities and countries we hope to visit.

The Knights love what we do and we can express that most clearly with pieces that we love (like Beethoven's Fifth!). Making the recording enables us to offer our own interpretation of this vital, timeless work and to share the great enthusiasm we have for playing it.

Develop a bond with The Knights and help us infuse this well-known piece with our own fresh ideas, energy, and vision. Join us on the adventure!

The Knights

Has not connected their Facebook account.

The Knights are an orchestra of friends from a broad spectrum of the New York music world who cultivate collaborative music making and creatively engage audiences in the shared joy of musical performance. Led by an open-minded spirit of camaraderie and exploration, they expand the orchestral concert experience with programs that encompass their roots in the Classical tradition and their passion for musical discovery.

Under the baton of conductor Eric Jacobsen, The Knights enjoyed a return engagement to the Ravinia Festival and a trio of concerts in Central Park this past summer. 2011/12 season highlights include: New Year’s Eve at New York’s 92nd Street Y, a tour of Germany with cellist Jan Vogler in March and its first U.S. tour in April. Additionally, the group is the first Ensemble-in-Residence at New York Public Radio’s WQXR, and is featured in "We Are The Knights", a documentary produced by WNET/Thirteen.

The Knights evolved from late-night chamber music reading parties with friends at the home of violinist Colin Jacobsen and cellist Eric Jacobsen, both of whom now serve as co-artistic directors. Among the group’s diverse talents are composers, arrangers, singer-songwriters and improvisers who bring a range of cultural influences. The musicians are graduates of elite music schools, and members have performed as soloists with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago and San Francisco symphony orchestras. Each opportunity for these busy, versatile musicians to perform together as The Knights is a special occasion that they consider, quite literally, playtime.
