Update #9: Status
Update #8: News Articles from Canada
While I'm quickly getting the hang of editing video (more videos to follow soon!), the Canadian members of the Canadian-Cuban Celtic Society have been busy giving interviews and writing articles about their trip. I thought I'd share some of those with you.
This first one is a short article from the Charlottetown Guardian, in Prince Edward Island interviewing Ward MacDonald, the man who convinced me to go to Cuba, about the Cuba trip, and also about the Fiddle Camp he's running this summer. Ward gave a scholarship to Cuban Fiddler Angelica Gongora for the Camp. Article
The second article is by Bill Henry of Owen Sound, Ontario written for the local newspaper, The Sun Times. In Cuba, I saw Bill taking a lot of photos while I was busy shooting video, and I wondered at his dedication to his hobby, not realizing he was a reporter for a newspaper in Canada. He's written a very good account of the trip, complete with sound clips and a slideshow of his photos Here. Enjoy.
Update #7: First Footage Taste
I'm Back! I need to focus on putting my life back in order right now, but I wanted to give a quick update and a taste of the footage I got. This video is from the graveside of Eduardo Lorenzo the "last piper of Havana." The piper on the far right is Alejandro, the leader of the Galicain pipe band, and Eduardo's pupil. Havana's Cemetery is said to the be the second largest in the world with 2 million graves in 135 acres.
This is completely unedited. So please excuse the jerky bits.
The photo was taken from the balcony of the Cafe O'Reilly in Havana where we spent several nights playing tunes. The residents in the building across the street would sit at their windows and listen in.
