A black comedy favorite re-imagined for the Boxcar Theatre Playhouse. Step outside (literally) onto Skid Row at Natoma and 6th Streets as Seymour, a poor, lonely flower shopkeeper, dreams of a better life and a place that's green to share with the woman he pines for, Audrey. When a rare and exotic plant mysteriously appears, he finds the fame and fortune he was looking for, and a whole lot more. This carnivorous plant has a thirst for human blood, and Seymour is just the man to get it. With newly redesigned puppets representing the man-eating plant from outer space, this fast-paced musical keeps you on your feet and your heart pounding.

Boxcar Theatre, known for their experiential work, re-imagines this Broadway classic and updates it from its kitschy 1950s fluff to represent the gritty nature of the down and out in today's modern world. And as the Boxcar Theatre Playhouse is situated in a rough and tumble neighborhood, we're embracing those roots to create a site specific production. With over 30 performers, a live band, street closures (we're performing ON Natoma Street and shutting it down for one song), Boxcar is reaching for the stars.

Our crazy ideas include:

1) Staging two fully charged musical numbers outside on the street. The city fee to temporarily close the street? $480

2) We have an actor riding up on a real motorcycle? Cost of the motorcycle? Donated. Cost of training and a class A license? $320

3) We are redesigning and building the Audrey II plant puppet from scratch. Cost? $2,700.

4) We are using tons of live and pre-recorded video and video feeds throughout the performance. Cost? Over $1,600...

And that's just the tip of the iceberg, the list goes on and on...

We have received a pledge from a group of angel donors, that if we can meet our Kickstarter goal, they will match it dollar for dollar. We need your help to offset the biggest budget show Boxcar's ever done.

Your money will go towards all aspects of the production. From paychecks for the actors, designers, and musicians, to the set, costume, and prop construction, to the marketing and outreach of the show, your donations will help bring this dream to life.
