Splice together your Facebook/Twitter accounts with the theory that has fueled the December 21, 2012 phenomenon.
We are very excited about Bo Wen and think that you will be too! Here you can find useful information about what Bo Wen is, the history of Timewave Zero, and ways to help make this app into a reality. Thanks for checking out the project!
What is Bo Wen?
Bo Wen (Chinese: wave/ripple) is a mobile app that creates novel user experiences by splicing together your Facebook and Twitter accounts with a Timewave Zero calculator.
What does Bo Wen do?
- Imagine being able to instantly see which past historical events and epochs correspond with dates/activity from your Facebook account.
- Imagine being able to graphically see which periods of the future have the greatest potential for change and novelty.
- Imagine being able to see which periods of the past will repeat themselves in the future.
- Imagine the coincidences/serendipity/synchronicity that could be generated by merging the accumulated data from your social networking accounts with an ancient Chinese divinatory system.
- Bo Wen displays this in the palm of your hand.
Facebook and Twitter?
By allowing the app to work with their Facebook and Twitter accounts, the user is able to enter any date in history and obtain a list of the Status Updates, Photo tags, Friends, Tweets, and/or Check-Ins which have a relationship/resonance to that day in the past, present, or future. Your Facebook Timeline is plotted along the novelty wave of Timewave Zero. The back-end of the app cross links data to provide the user with subtle subjective synchronistic experiences. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity
During the 1970s, an American ethnobotanist named Terence McKenna developed a theory for charting the flow of novelty across time called Timewave Zero. By calculating values obtained from an inspired interpretation of the 64-hexagram King Wen sequence of the I-Ching, McKenna discovered a fractal-wave function which he believed to reflect the nature of time as a novelty generating/conserving engine. In this theory, novelty is defined as space-time's increasing complexification and interconnectedness. This is graphed visually as a fractal-wave function traveling across a timeline chart. Timewave Zero was outlined in "The Invisible Landscape" written by brothers Terence and Dennis McKenna.
I-Ching: the 64 hexagrams of the King Wen sequence
First order of difference: the number of lines that change between the previous hexagram were recorded and plotted along a chart by McKenna, with the result resembling a wave:
Timewave Zero was developed into software during the 1970s-1990s by Royce Kelly, Leon Taylor, Peter Meyer, Terence McKenna and others. The software graphs the timewave as it rises and plunges into periods of novelty along a timeline. The lower the wave drops correlates to increased concentration of novelty. Curious alignments with major historical events can be noted as the wave drops into novelty. Repeating patterns in the wave itself across history are also observed. These repeating mathematically defined patterns were termed to be in 'resonance' with one another by McKenna, which complemented his assertion that past events as well as future events resonate forwards and backwards to merge and affect the present moment. It is possible to observe where periods of history repeat and which are in resonance with one another with the Fractal Time software developed by Peter Meyer. http://www.fractal-timewave.com/

How and where will you complete Bo Wen?
Bo Wen is a growing team of designers, programmers, artists, and planners. Our strategy is to bring more people aboard to finalize the programming architecture, polish the user interface, fall in and out of love with APIs, write Shakespearian code, finalize features, test for pesky bugs and launch in September 2012. Bo Wen is an international collaborative effort between New York City and China.
What will the $10,000 be spent on?
- $8,400-salary for lead developer(s) and staff.
- $800-NYC Awesomeness Launch Party, hosting/servers, over-head costs.
- $800-Kickstarter and Amazon transaction fees (low-ball estimation).
We are running an honest campaign, one which places importance on transparency and accountability. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message!
As the principal programmer of Timewave Zero software, Peter Meyer presents commentary on Fractal Time software and other topics on the following website where you can learn more: http://www.fractal-timewave.com/ Fractal Time software is offered under our $1,000 Reward category.
Why Kickstarter? Why do you need some $ love?
The Kickstarter community is one that thrives on innovation, creativity, and novelty and that's also what Bo Wen is about at its core: novelty. We need to aggregate a little $ love here and there from people who are inspired by this app so that we can commit ourselves full-time to this endeavor and hire additional team members. Currently, we are unable to build Bo Wen without more hands on deck.
With our super-team, we plan to go all out and have Bo Wen ready for download on September 23, 2012. We will return the $ love in the form of a well designed-functioning mobile application along with some great rewards.

September 2012 Launch Party in NYC
The "Awesomeness Launch Party" will begin on September 23, 2012 in New York City and China. Bands/DJs/Food/Speakers/Location TBA!
We know that not everyone will be able to attend the launch party and that is a major bummer :( However the whole event will be Livestreamed, with DJ/Band sets available for free download on our site. We will also have a Launch Party simultaneously Livestreaming from our team in China.
We look forward to giving you a great app and having you along for the ride!
Thank you Kickstarter community!
