Has China cleaned America's clock in clean tech? What are the opportunities for U.S. companies in China's quest for clean energy?
Has China cleaned America's clock in clean tech? How are U.S.-China partnerships propelling China toward a cleaner future?
Support my China-bound reporting trip to find out, and hear my stories on public radio!
To
fuel its economic growth, China is in an all-out race to power. And
deploying clean technology is central to its national energy strategy.
China’s
leaders are charging ahead with green technology, convinced it’s a
win-win for the environment and economic growth. With the new energy
market worth billions of dollars and expanding, the economic stakes are
huge.
So
what’s next in clean tech in China? What challenges does China face? What are the opportunities for U.S. companies? What can the U.S. learn from China to boost the
clean tech industry here?
Find out by supporting my reporting trip to China. As a former NPR Tokyo bureau chief and an investigative reporter at Science magazine, I'll provide compelling, illuminating stories about China's "Race to Power."
A Big Audience
The
audience for these stories will be broad. The most-listened-to public radio
station in the U.S., KQED public radio in San Francisco, has agreed to air
my stories statewide, pending the usual editorial and approval processes. The stories will be heard nationally and
internationally through the station’s website.
The Stories
I'm targeting three specific stories for this reporting
trip: China’s solar industry, its smart grid and the
construction of eco-cities. (Mind-boggling as it sounds, whole new
“sustainable energy” cities are being built from scratch around China.)
I’ll
interview government leaders, company executives, researchers, and
consumers to get the best, most authoritative information for my
stories.
What
if we exceed the funding goal?
- An extra $5000 would cover production costs.
- An extra $15,000 would help me produce a half-hour documentary for public radio on clean tech and climate change policy in China.
- An extra $30,000 would help me create an hour-long, in-depth program for public radio on the topic.
Rewards
Cool
stuff at all levels: I designed this custom dragon logo for all sorts of
swag.

I’m also offering a lovely, limited edition book on Chinese design based on a collection of photos I took in China. See below for a sampling. At the highest levels, you’ll get beautiful, framed canvas prints created from these photos and more.

How Kickstarter Works
Kickstarter
is an all-or-nothing format. So the project is only a “go” if the
financial goal is reached. That means you pay only when we hit the goal.
Every
contribution helps. Really. Pledging is easy: click the green button at
the top and you’re on your way to support my project at whatever level
you choose. Your support is deeply appreciated!
Rewards will be fulfilled once the funding goal is reached.
Spread the Word
Please ask
your colleagues, family and friends to support my reporting trip
through your favorite social media. Even if you can’t make a pledge
because money’s tight, tell your network right away. Help my project go viral! You can make a difference.
Hurry, the clock's ticking to reach the funding goal.
Thanks so much for your consideration....and stay tuned.
FAQ’s
When will I get my rewards?
Rewards
will be fulfilled only after the project’s financial goal is reached.
Once the goal is reached, I’ll order the merchandise and hope
to ship it out by early July. I’ll post updates on Kickstarter.
What if I only want to pledge and don’t want the rewards?
That’s fine. There’s a button to click to decline the rewards when you pledge.
What if the goal’s not met?
I’m
passionate about this project and am determined and hopeful to reach or
surpass the goal. But if the goal’s not met, no money changes hands.
Your credit card will not be charged. Please rally your friends and
colleagues to support my project today. Many thanks!
