About this project

Yerba Maté is not a tea; It's an infusion (seriously, check wikipedia). More importantly, it's a healthy and delicious way to bring more energy into your life.

What is the Great Maté Journey?
It's my personal quest to travel South America in search of the finest Maté the continent has to offer. I'm planning on traveling through Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay

Why Maté?
According to the rest of the internet, Yerba Maté is supposed to have powers such as mental stimulation, fatigue reduction, stress reduction, insomnia elimination, appetite control, body immunization, blood detoxification, nervous system toning, restoration of hair color and preservation of youth. I don't know if I believe all of that, but I can personally attest to a few things:

1) More Energy! It's like drinking coffee without the jittery side effects and eventual crash. Also, I can drink maté at 7:00pm and not have a problem falling asleep at 9:30pm.
2) Mental Clarity! I always do my best writing, working and thinking while drinking Maté.
3) Aids Digestion. Keeps me regular, enough said.

Why now?
I have been drinking Maté for about 5 years, and only a small number of people I meet have heard of Maté, let alone tasted it. It's time for Maté drinkers to come out of the woodwork. In the Midwest, especially, it's difficult to find. It's time to bring Yerba Maté into every Midwesterner's vocabulary. We need this.

What will the money be used for?
The money will go towards no-frills travel expenses and costs associated with tasting, acquiring, documenting and shipping Maté from all over South America.

I'm David Lang. I was born and raised in snowy Minnesota and currently live on my sailboat in the San Francisco Bay. I've been an avid Yerba Maté drinker for nearly 6 years. My dad, an enlightened man, taught me everything I know about Maté (which is about as much as anyone else in Minnesota.) Yerba Maté is the official drink of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. It's a delicious, energy-packed dose of straight-up health, and rightfully considered the "Drink of the Gods." It's my personal mission to travel to South America to find the world's greatest Yerba Maté to bring back and share with the good people of Minnesota. The journey will not be easy, but somebody has to do it...
