The documentary Blazing Paddles: The Movie tells the story of the first international amateur ping-pong tournament of its kind.  To be held in Amsterdam in April of 2013, Blazing Paddles will invite amateur players and teams from around the world to compete in this special tournament.  The documentary follows the players as they prepare in their home countries and make the journey to Amsterdam to meet their challengers and participate in the 3 day event, which features live music, DJs, special effects, and spaces for mingling, ping-pong, and music.

Participants will be invited to film and document their own experiences and journeys, then bring their footage to Blazing Paddles.  This footage will be incorporated into the documentary, with the goal of a collaborative, multi-style documentary about a special moment in time and space.  

What will the money raised be used for?

All funds raised will go towards:

Two (2) Canon XA10 HD Camcorders: $3,600

Audio equipment: $1,500

Remaining funds ($9,900) will go towards initial editing and production costs for Blazing Paddles: The Movie.

So, a documentary about pingpong?

That's right.  This tournament is unlike any other, and has been in the planning stages for several years.  Drawing inspiration from documentaries such as Air Guitar Nation, Spellbound, and Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Blazing Paddles: The Movie will chronicle the preparation that goes into the tournament, the journeys of individual teams and players as they play to represent their country in the world championships, and will highlight the more colorful characters who attend the tournament.  The final documentary is clearly meant to entertain and show the levity of this event, but also hopes to convey the unity and joy of a group of like minded people.
