Based on Blanche Barrow's time with the Barrow Gang, DI is a Modern Vaudeville; Love, Death and the roads we choose to follow.
The Deadliest Instruments is a “history through the back door” play. Most Americans know the history of Bonnie and Clyde and their desperate running amidst a swirl of violence. It is one of the most compelling American myths of the 20th century, and one that seems to be prominent in the public consciousness right now. So what of the bit players in the story? Buck, Clyde's older brother; Deacon "W.D." Jones the young accomplice; and Blanche, Buck's new, young wife, daughter of a preacher. How did Buck and Blanche survive those three months they spent running from murder? How did the relationships change within that stress and danger? What, in particular, is Blanche’s story? I have attempted to tell Blanche’s story in The Deadliest Instruments using historical research and a journal that Blanche wrote during her seven year prison sentence that was later titled, "My Life With Bonnie & Clyde". I also used my imagination to tell the story that interests me: How does one choose the "right" road to travel through life on, and how does love and death lead you or leave you there?
The theater performance will be told with period music, a live band and fantastic acting & directing. It is an exciting dark comedy, a “modern vaudeville” that will entertain and make good after-theater pie conversation.
We will be performing The Deadliest Instruments at The Triple Door in August 2012. The Triple Door is a beautiful swanky venue in downtown Seattle that seats over 200. It has been a vaudeville house, a porn theater and a parking garage.
We raised a percentage of our budget from a cabaret show in April called la Theatre Cabaret d'Amerique. We are currently planning a media blitz for July as we begin rehearsals. The Kickstarter campaign funds will be crucial in paying for the largest line item in our budget: renting rehearsal space. It is vitally important that we have ample space to work in, as we are working with physicality, movement, and a live band.
Our team has an inordinate amount of faith in this humble project. We hope you'll join us.
