About this project

No Matter What is a story of hope and unexpected kindness painted against the somewhat bleak backdrop of a rural town. The film portrays characters in low-income situations in the South, but not in a way that makes fun of their upbringing or class. Instead the film characterizes them as truly funny and human and worth caring about. The main characters, Nick and Joey, are teenagers who are often rambunctious and antisocial. Ultimately the film does not judge their actions but tries to understand the motivations behind them. The power of this story is that it allows the audience to observe characters who beautifully - and painfully - resemble ourselves: people capable of love as well as hate, who make mistakes, and sometimes do the wrong thing. That is the hope of cinema, that by seeing honest characters, their failures, connections, and successes, we may somehow change ourselves for the better.

No Matter What is so close to being complete! The film is already shot and edited and we're so so happy with how it has turned out.

The last thing we need to take care of is sound design. The investment we had lined up to pay for our post production expenses fell through and we've been scrambling for the last few months to come up with completion funds. I decided recently that, since this was such a tiny movie made by friends, the best place to go for help in finishing it would be friends who believe in us and believe in the project. This is where you can help!

I would appreciate any donations you can give us, or if you can't do that right now, please spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested in helping.

Thanks in advance!

one of the skateboards used in the film is actually my personal skateboard that I bought when I was sixteen. it will be hard to part with it, but if it helps the movie, one lucky person can walk away with a well-loved Arto Saari FLIP board circa 2002. (also, my un-ending love, a special thanks in the end credits and a poster from the film).

Cherie Saulter grew up in a small town in Northwest Florida and traveled not too far away to acquire her degree in Filmmaking from Florida State. Award-winning Medicine for Melancholy marked her first feature credit as a producer and she has since Associate Produced the forthcoming indies City on a Hill (Amy Seimetz) and The Myth of the American Sleepover (David Robert Mitchell) which premiered at South by Southwest in 2010 and was one of the few American indies playing at the Cannes Film Festival. No Matter What is Cherie’s first feature as a writer/director and it is a story that is very close to her.

Cherie wants to make movies that ask audiences to care about flawed characters. And she wants to help other filmmakers do that too. Cherie believes in the power of hope, in the ability of people to change the world and, above everything, in unconditional love.
