With the help of some great friends and talented musicians and engineers, I'm hoping to produce a solo album of all-original material.

Me have songs. Me make album. Aaaarrgghh. Me need money.

Thanks to the support and contributions of numerous friends and musical accomplices, my debut original solo album, Slow Boat, is mostly recorded. Little tiny guys with itsy bitsy guitars, teeny tiny upright basses and snare drums the size of dimes are squatting in your car stereo speakers right now just waiting to play it. But they need some help. Specifically, they need cash.

A studio recording and the associated packaging require up-front expenses. Typically, this cash investment is  made by a record label, a publishing company, a team of mustached lawyers, or some combination of these parties, which then leverages that investment to pocket the resulting revenues from album sales and royalties.

My model for this project is different. This is a purely artistic endeavor. It's not likely this thing will go platinum, but I hope to make a professional-quality recording of original music that hopefully will allow me to grow as a musician and expand my range and scope. What Kickstarter provides is a funding mechanism to help independent artists and musicians get high-quality projects off the ground. Basically, you buy cool stuff before it gets made, thus allowing the maker of the cool stuff to make the cool stuff in the first place.

Your contributions will go toward:

- Mixing (Wikipidia, in its infinite wisdom, can explain the audio mixing process much better than I.)

- Mastering (Thanks again, Wikipedia: Audio Mastering)

- Manufacturing of CDs and a couple other small promotional materials

- Publicity (music publishing fees, some promotional things like press photos and a couple groovy t-shirts)

Unfortunately, all of these things are not cheap. But if I reach my goal, I should be able to get the album done and get it done right. Thanks for reading this far. I'd like to sincerely offer you a big virtual bear hug and thank you a million times for all your support.

-Nick

I'll come to your house with an advance copy of the CD, a bottle of inexpensive red wine and a slow boat T-shirt and I'll play an hour set for you and your friends (or just you, I suppose, but that would be kind of weird). This is limited to people within an hour radius of Madison, Wis., Chicago, Ill., and Ann Arbor, Mich. Madison will be easy to pull off; the other two locations will be less easy but certainly doable.
