Liberating Images from "Death in Arizona"

Hello. I want to share with you briefly more about my motivations. My 2 previous films have been rooted in social issues: Immigration, the Future of Water. Important issues, I believe. But as I struggled so profoundly after being abandoned by an extraordinary love, the camera became something else. It was no longer used to see the world outside but to see inside.
These images, these sounds, they are not a documentation. They are my fears and ultimately my own liberation. They are an attempt to transform grief into something powerful and beautiful. These images are perhaps my patience in waiting for change. //
My Mother continues to enrich my project. Here is her latest print, one of three artworks that I hope to be sending you when this is done.

Hola. Quiero compartir brevemente un poco acerca mis motivaciones. Mis 2 previos documentales han tocado temas sociales: migración y el futuro del agua. Temas importantes, creo. Sin embargo, mientras me confrontaba después de haber sido abandonado por un amor tan extraordinario, la cámara se transformó en algo distinto. Dejó de ser utilizada para mirar el mundo afuera sino para mirar adentro.
Estas imágenes, estos sonidos, no intentan ser un documento. Son mis propios miedos y finalmente mi liberación. Son un intento de transformar un pesar en algo poderoso y bello. Estas imágenes son tal vez mi paciencia al esperar el cambio. //
Mi Mamá continúa enriqueciendo este proyecto. Aquí esta el último grabado que hizo, una de tres piezas que espero mandarles cuando esto termine.

I plan to premiere the film at a US Film Festival sometime next year. When I do, you will receive all of the rewards above plus I will reserve 2 tickets for you to the first screening of the film, guaranteed no matter where it plays. I would also like to invite you to my home in Oaxaca or Bolivia or Arizona so I may cook you one of three special dinners, get drunk with you, and talk about anything that inspires us. The dinners will be announced with the premiere details. No travel expenses can be included, but many hugs come at this level too to make you feel like it was worth it.

What could I even say? I would be stunned and eternally grateful. I would of course send you every reward offered above and I will reserve one full filmmaker Festival Pass/Accreditation as the Executive Producer to any festival the film plays ever, I will also send you a bottle of my favorite Mezcal made from the maguey cactus of Oaxaca, where I live.
