About this project
The mission of The Tumbleweed Collective is to document and collect relics of the tiny overlooked dusty corners of American history and knit them together with the present. As an artist and collector I will be traveling to each of the fifty states in search of souvenirs of both the past and present. I want the wishbone from your thanksgiving turkey, a letter you wrote but never sent, a cassette tape ribbon containing a recording of the sound of the first rainstorm in April, splinters from the door of a bathroom once used by Abraham Lincoln in your town. With these objects, I will sculpt fifty tumbleweeds, one for every state in the union. The tumbleweed is the perfect form for these reliquaries to take as a tumbleweed expands and grows as it travels, it is multi-layered and eccentric, just like America. At the completion of the project, the tumbleweeds will be shown en masse in a traveling exhibition. If you are willing to help, your money will help to fund me getting in my car and starting the first tumbleweed creating expedition.
