Historical documentary about the restoration of an 1800's log cabin, utilizing authentic construction methods from the period
[Your donations will only be collected if and when we reach our funding goal] This documentary is about preserving the past and educating the present. Indian Mound Reserve Log Cabin is a classic log cabin that was built in the early 1800's and still stands today in a park in Cedarville Ohio. For years, the cabin has been in danger of becoming condemned due lack of park resources for upkeep...until now. Greene County Parks has secured the funding to completely restore the cabin and has hired builder, Greg Dart, to head up the project. Mr. Dart, is an artist at heart, and the owner of a successful contracting company in Dayton Ohio. His vision is to restore the cabin via the sole use of historic building techniques that would have been used at the time of the cabin's original construction. The techniques will include hand-hewing logs, smelting iron parts, collecting sediment from local rivers for mortar, installing "deer hide window panes", and creating hand-made furniture from local wood, to name a few. In the film, the entire process will be documented and interviews will be conducted with craftspeople from the various fields. Re-enactments and interviews with historians of both, pioneer and American Indian history are planned, to give viewers a detailed picture of the historical period. The Cabin sits on parkland which contains an ancient Adena Indian mound. The Adena culture existed many many centuries before the cabin was built, but is none-the-less still visible and intimately connected to the landscape in which the pioneer cabin was built. So with this in mind we plan to spend some time exploring the mysterious mound and it's significance to the overall story of pioneer-era Ohio. Funds raised from Kickstarter will be used for equipment and day-pay for a small crew. We are only asking for $3000 in order to ensure that we can raise some amount of funds, since you have to reach your goal with Kickstarter in order to receive the pledges, but in reality we need something closer to $10,000. So if you notice that we've reached our goal please don't hesitate to continue pledging. We would like to broadcast the final product on local PBS channels. In addition Greene Country Parks would like to place the film in a kiosk within cabin for visitors to view. We believe this would be a culturally significant project for the Dayton area, and could serve as an entertaining and educational tool for current and future generations. Thank you for your support!

The project will be conducted (in terms of the actual restoration aspect) in collaboration with Greene Country Parks and Trails and will rely on continued funding from the Parks, which has been pledged in three stages. Stage one, the disassembling of the cabin, has already been completed and the second two stages have been approved.
In terms of the filming of the documentary: with such a small crew and budget, a steady dedication and perseverance will be required on our part to complete this project but with over a decade of successful low budget filmmaking experience our confidence is strong.
