The Daily Superpower is a blog I started about a year ago. The goal was to post a kind of weird, non-traditional superpower along with an illustration of that power every weekday. Superpowers like the ability to become bubbles

or the ability to pee rainbows

I would also mix in physical mutations, which some people don't consider to be 'superpowers' but I do, so there! Stuff like rolling pin forearms

or interchangeable extremities

My process for creating the images was pretty simple. They all started out with something I cut out of a comic book which was then modified and added to to create an image of the power that matched what I had in mind. From start to finish it looks something like this

About 20% of the powers(including 'sharks for feet' above) I posted were submitted by fans. I also ran all-submission weeks based around themes like Food, Office, Space, etc.

I also featured two guest artists, Tim Reynolds and Adam Smith, for a full week each.

I should probably get to the point of why I'm here now. I decided to end the blog at the one year mark for a few reasons, but mostly because I have a bunch of projects I want to work on and I'm happy with the body of work that The Daily Superpower represents at this point. But, in the interest of giving people something they can have forever and ever, and because I absolutely love books, I have decided to pursue self-publishing everything that went up on the blog in hardbound book form. The book will measure 7"x9" and will be 288 full color pages with one superpower per page(submissions will be credited as they are on the blog) along with some extras in the back like additional powers that were sent out in the form of tweets.

My brother, Tim, has been handling all the graphic design elements of the blog, so I asked him to put together a mock-up of the cover design I had in mind.

Since I'm planning on having the Kickstarter campaign be the primary way for people to get the book, and because I think the sketch cover incentives are pretty cool, I had Tim leave a lot of white space in the design. I also like simple compositions on their own so I'm pretty happy with how the cover looks even when it's just blank.

The retail price on the book will be $39.99, I've valued it here at around $30, and the remaining books after all the pre-orders are filled will be sold on Amazon.com at a price of $32. So, this campaign is the cheapest way to get a copy of the book. I've also limited the number of signed covers and signed & sketched covers that are available, this number will not increase(though I may sign or sketch inside the front cover in certain situations).

If we meet the funding goal, which basically covers printing and shipping 1000 copies, then the books will be printed overseas and shipped to me in late May/early June. I'm planning to take plenty of time off from my job to get all the books signed, sketched, and shipped as soon as they come in. I think if all the limited incentives were maxed out it would take me a little over a week to fulfill all the orders.
