Connected as Michael Woods (655 friends)
Evan Murphy and Michael Woods have been building awesome things together since they met at Caltech as undergrads. Together, they've built enigma machines, pirate ships, and never-ending waterfalls. They've gone on to professional careers in systems programming and R&D, and recently moved to Silicon Valley to pursue software startups.
For the Skallops project, they're joined by Marshall Grinstead (http://www.kickstarter.com/profile/mstead), a mutual friend and mechanical engineer extraordinaire from their undergrad days at Caltech.
Sometimes they use their powers for good, never for evil, and always for awesome.
Never received my Trebuchet....... Been almost a full year since funding was successful. Almost 3 months since the last update here, and THAT was about your other product. Are you guys still mailing them out?
I put together my collectors edition today and was really amazed just by the sheer amount of detail that went into it. It's a real quality product. I haven't used it yet, and already I think it was totally worth the money. I gave one of the regular editions that I got to my brother for Christmas and you could tell it was the best present he got this year; even before other presents were finished being unwrapped he and my father had set down and started putting it together (proving that no matter how old you are, a trebuchette is always a fun toy). Hersheys Kisses and miniature Lindt chocolate make the perfect ammunition
@Ish Healy-
Send us an email at contact@siegetoys with your name and email address and we'll get that tracked down for you. The collector's editions have shipped out, and so you should have gotten yours by now unless there's been a mixup somewhere.
@Grant Smith- Ahh, we don't have any immediate plans for selling more of the artsy editions soon. They're actually rather difficult to make because we have to get things aligned on both sides of the wood for the art patterns.
@Alton - If you get a chance, could you send us a picture of the cracked springy bits? We're always looking for better ways of doing things, and part of that is understanding the failure modes of your old methods. If it's not too much of a hassle, shoot us an email with some pics at contact@siegetoys.com .
Have the collector editions shipped out? I've received my other ones, but not my collector's edition yet
Hi folks, mine arrived late dec in Sydney, are you going to be selling the collectors editions on your website? If u are put me down for a steel girder design ASAP!
Just got mine today (Jan 5th). Very happy with everything, especially how fast and hard it shoots a chickpea. The only comments I have are that the base extenders don't seem to grab very tightly, while the holes in the uprights seem to tight (I cracked a couple of the springy cuts putting it together)
I think this weekend I'm going to crack a couple glow sticks open, paint up some chickpeas, and launch them at the park.
Thanks again for an awesome product! Hopefully I'll have some extra cash to back your other project before it finishes up!
I'm in the Philippines. Got mine today.
I got mine Dec 30 (I'm in The Netherlands). I put it together today and it's working beautifully :) Thank you for a great product and for all the updates to keep us informed about the progress along the way!
Definitely let us know if you're international and have received your kits! We've got confirmations of kits landing in France, Australia, and Ireland (just off the top of my head, and amongst others), but I can't think of a confirmation from Canada immediately, but I'll double check that in a bit.
Just checking...has anyone else in Canada NOT received theirs yet? I know that shipping between Canada and the US is absolutely dreadful, and I didn't expect to get it in time for Christmas based on the listed shipping date, I'm just wondering how my fellow Canadians are fairing?
Hi Junloud, that's no good! I've sent you an email to double check the shipping details; we'll send the correct piece out right away.
Evan.
I ran into a slight problem with mine...I received 3 top stabilizers and 1 bottom stabilizer. Can't put it together with the missing bottom stabilizer. The second kit is complete and is going out as a gift. It's looking good so far though!
Clearly, a large-scale snap-fit construction toy, a plywood Tinkertoy, am I wrong?
11 +/- 60? The new product has been playtested by people who won't be born until 2060?
Gave as a Christmas present. And what says love and peace like medieval siege weapons!? lol Needless to say, the kit impressed. Cheers!
Anyone in Toronto, Canada receive their kit?
Mine shipped December 12, and unless there is weekend mail delivery it looks like an IOU for Christmas.
Thanks
Mine arrives a few days ago, and one is already assembled. They are way awesome! Happy Holidays to everyone!
Just received mine in Paris, France. AWESOME. Merry Christmas to everyone !
Mine arrived a couple days ago. I opened it up and am very impressed, however my wife said that they need to go under the tree for Christmas. Guess I shouldn't whine like that in front of the kids, makes a bad example...
My Trebuchette just arrive. Thanks guys - it's awesome!
Thanks for the comments, Dan and Phredd! So glad you like it!
Guys the trebuchette is awesome! I put it together yesterday and I'm amazed at how precise it is. The quality of the build is excellent--all your hard work with the lasers shows. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I got my Trebuchette! It looks great. I hope to have time to put it together this weekend. It's been a long stretch, but I appreciate the updates and I got the feeling you guys were hard at work and really doing your best. I wish you success with your business. Please post the instructions online if you haven't already.
Yep, I added the shipped and total counts to the order spreadsheet. The "orders" side isn't quite correct, because it includes orders that don't have a regular kit in them, but the "kits" side is right.
You'll also see the rows get colored in different shades of green and blue. I'm doing that to differentiate our shipping batches, but it doesn't mean anything else -- it's as much for us as for anything else. We'll turn an order colored on the day we send out the emails, and we'll ship them out in a batch about 4 days later.
Cheers!
Evan.
That was quick - thanks
Could you add a count of Trebuchets delivered to the spreadsheet? Just for the curious of us
Hi John -- We're emailing each backer individually right before and right after the order ships, to double check the shipping address and to send the tracking number, respectively. So look out for an email from contact@siegetoys.com you'll know when your order ships!
We're also updating the Google Docs spreadsheet -- an order turns green when we pack the order, and gets deleted after it gets picked up by the USPS. So you can also see how far away you are here: http://bit.ly/rAA5fO
Cheers,
Evan.
How about posting a last shipped funder number after each shipment. We can then tell whether our order has shipped or not. Cheers
Got mine and put it together. Very awesome! One comment for quality control purpose (but not a complaint) the laser cuts on the targets were not quite deep enough in spots, so the wood splintered when trying to punch out the parts, but was easily fixed with a small file. Otherwise, really great quality on everything and well worth the wait!
Got mine today and put it together. It looks great and somewhat menacing which I suppose is normal. With the weights added I don't see it as any good for indoor use, but then I suppose I could remove some weights from it to test it indoors. Outdoors is too windy for a good test.
Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of such a great kickstarter and to have my very own piece of medevil siege equipment.
@Cindy: You shouldn't care what your boss thinks; you'll be the one who's armed!
Enjoy!
-Marshall
Got my pkg in the mail today. If you decide to go another round with cedar or something else that smells good, let me know. =) Can't wait to run home and put it together. Don't think boss would be okay if I put it together at work, sigh.
Hi Barbara! You're on there, but it turns out you were a later backer: your order is order #1566. Remember, Google Docs supports search with Ctrl-F (or Cmd-F on a Mac).
Cheers,
Evan.
Where is Barbara Mahaney on the list? I thought I was in the very first group!
Its gone very quiet for all your backers. We have had a helpful update pretty much once a week since the project stated - but now nothing for two and a half weeks. And the progress on the spreadsheet is not encouraging. It might be worth putting out another update. Even if its not great news, its better than nothing.
70 orders shipped in about a month, I don\t want to be annoying, but with this rate it'll literally be years before some of see our orders.
Please tell me you will pick up the pace.
@David - Ahhh... I got that all figured out now. That was a total miscommunication on our side. We each thought the other had updated the spreadsheet and deleted the fulfilled rows, but I've just gotten that figured out and fixed. Thanks for continuing to pester us about that!
But the spreadsheet still hasn't been updated...
Got my package! (It was delivered a block away) Thanks, guys!
This is very confusing. I checked the spreadsheet and it doesn't look like anything has changed. I'm still at the same position I was at a week ago. If 50 kits went out, I would have thought I would be in that group. Maybe I don't understand the spreadsheet.
Hi Andrew!
There absolutely is. The direct link is in this project update: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1803756771/trebuchette-the-snap-together-desktop-trebuchet/posts/127726
We had another batch of shipments go out yesterday, so as the shipments head out, we're taking names off of the list, so you'll see your position steadily rise to the top.
Also, right before your kits ship, you'll get a confirmation email to double check your address and shipping details.
-Michael & Evan
Lucky you Matt.
Any updates on the rest of the shipments, is there a way to check on the Google doc spreadsheet where you are in fulfilling the pledges?
Just got my Trebuchete's they are AWESOME. Great job guys. When is the store going to open so I can buy some for Christmas presents.
Thanks and good job again.
Hi Alan,
Evan and I have an entirely separate (and much larger!) spreadsheet, keeping track of all of the special comments from our backers, so never fear, we've got your details down!
The public spreadsheet is much more limited in scope, in part so that it loads quickly for everyone, and in part so that people's private information is kept private.
-Michael & Evan
I didn't see on the spreadsheet any comments. Do you have recorded any special comments for backers that asked for special things? For example, I requests (and added pledge $ and you acknowledged) extra ball ammo but I didn't see any notes on this.
I knew when I pledged that I was funding a design process as much as buying a product. I've been happy with your design and trial process, and pleased with the solutions you've come up with to problems that arise. It's been tremendous fun watching you guys explain your reasoning. I showed your videos recently to my friend's kids so they could understand something about engineering and product design. You may have made two future design engineers. They can't wait for the trebuchette to arrive, either (makes me wish I had ordered three!).
For balance, I'm happy with the updates and I don't mind when my trebuchette turns up!
I am enjoying the process as seen thru your updates, and really like your assembly videos. thx.
Well, it sounds as though some are getting antsy. Can you just shoot for Christmas? I have big plans for these.
And for the record, I have another Kickstarter project that was funded in February that still hasn't seen completion. And rarely gives updates.
You guys have had a lot of work cut out for you. Thanks for the updates!
