@Randall, I believe that their intent (at least their stated intent) was to ship in order of backing. However, as they mentioned in an earlier update, they needed to pipeline their assembly process to make everything go faster. I don't know where you are on the backers list, but if they had made the packages one at a time in the order of backers, you might have ended up waiting even longer. I was one of the early backers, and I got my package yesterday because I chose 4 different colors.

Love the scallops. Suggestion: modify the card design so it has regularly spaced markers around the border (or at least at common attach sites) to make it easier to make clean looking / symmetric assemblies.

Do I correctly understand that you are shipping to the biggest backers last? Had I known we would be treated that way, I would have bought the Junior pack.

      David Elliott on May 17

The packs containing red just started shipping yesterday (they mentioned red was last to be produced in the last update). I got the builder pack with all 4 colors, and I'm an early backer, so depending on where you are in the list, you may have already gotten your shipping notice.

My shipment arrived today. They look and function as promised. It seems that the 56 Skallops fit perfectly in the package so this may be the reason for the 4 piece bonus. That being said, my first attempt at Skallop construction was the "pentagon sphere". Every part fits perfectly tight, but the 3D geometric shape uses 58 connectors. I ripped apart the packaging hoping that 2 more Skallops were hidden in the corners of the box. No luck. Since the wood part is made from plywood, can I use my pocket knife to separate the layers? I think I know the answer. =+)

I received my Starter Pack last week. They look great and are a lot of fun to mess around with. You guys are doing some great work here, keep it up. I expect to see these in all the local toy stores by Christmas :)

We received our order, but replaced the face cards, which we don't like in our home, with regular colored 3x5 cards. They work great!

In terms of your assembly situation, you might consider purchasing a used copy of "The Goal" by Eli Goldratt if you want to gain some new insights about scheduling+ production and assembly operations :} It is a book the I required my manufacturing engineering students, and their spouses, if married, to read. Great insights about manufacturing in general, and specific ways to maximize profits by increasing thruput, and reducing inventory, and operating expenses.

Hi all! Yes, the kits all really come with 56 Skallops, even though it says 52 on the box. Those are extras, in case one of Skallops breaks, gets lost, or comes mis-cut in the box (though we try to make sure that never happens!). We wanted to make sure that you could hold a couple in reserve and still build with the full 52 you were expecting in the kit. And keep your eyes peeled for an announcement about a website where you can browse and share Skallops designs -- we'll be launching any day now (knock on wood).

Got mine today! They were all walnut brown (builder pack). I also noticed that there are 56 instead of 52 inside every box, plus it seems some packaging mishaps gave me an extra 5 on top of that. Can't complain!

      Aaannnnddd... updated!

It's been a super busy last three weeks, but now you can all see what we've been up to. And yes, all of the 1,028 backers are still on schedule to have their kits shipped in March.

Similarly to the Trebuchette, we'll be shipping first-come, first-serve, based on backer number.

Hello, seems difficult to know where a comment should be left, but did you guys see that I have bought fully custom sets of cards from a UK company, which specialises in short runs of custom playing cards? Try googling Ivory graphics in Cambridgeshire. You can have them run off 50 or 100 or 200 sets, no problem, and at top quality. We have used their services a few times in the past 4 years for our business.

While building with Playing Cards reminds of the deck of notched picture cards from the Eames' design shop. I am interested in the Skallops to begin to present my photographs in more interesting ways. Already I'm thinking about how to work with varied picture sizes. Imagine a small freestanding panorama photo on a long narrow table or how about 4x6's, 5x7's around an 8x10" photo with common theme? I can't wait! I'll share photos of my photos after being "Skallop'd" Thanks!!

All my life I've played card games with my family as a child, friends as a youth, in casinos as an adult, and with my wife at the dinner table. I've built card houses and do card flourishes (and a couple of tricks).

My father always built wooden toys and projects. This is a fantastic way to blend those worlds together.

I find the lighter colors most attractive. I think having two sets; one light, one dark; would be most attractive and lead to even more amazing designs than just changing the cards.

Thank you! I'm going to use them to create exercises for teams - I will get to be creative and so will students! They are also very aesthetically pleasing! I can see using them with all kinds of cards, too e.g. I have some cards from Italy.

Connected as Michael Woods (655 friends)

Evan Murphy and Michael Woods have been building awesome things together since they met at Caltech as undergrads. Together, they've built enigma machines, pirate ships, and never-ending waterfalls. They've gone on to professional careers in systems programming and R&D, and recently moved to Silicon Valley to pursue software startups.

For the Skallops project, they're joined by Marshall Grinstead (http://www.kickstarter.com/profile/mstead), a mutual friend and mechanical engineer extraordinaire from their undergrad days at Caltech.

Sometimes they use their powers for good, never for evil, and always for awesome.
