An ecstatic blend of music, art and poetry! A rootsy new recording with an art piece and poetry that accompanies each song.
Reunion is such an exciting project! I am bringing together three different fields of artistic expression into one powerhouse of an undertaking. For 18 years I have professionally practiced music, fine art and writing prose individually from one another. With Reunion I am weaving all three areas of expertise into one. For the Reunion project I have been writing songs and creating works of art and poetry to accompany each song. I have been up in my mountain studio and truly the process has taken me, I find myself standing at my easel, with my guitar over my shoulder writing and painting simultaneously! What started as a linear process, write a song or prose, paint a painting, or vice versa has moved into an unexpected weaving of one art form informing the next in an ecstatic, truly abandoned dance with the muse!
The Reunion CD is rootsy and intimate, with a few bittersweet shadows, streams of hope and redemption, and the brilliance of liberation. The works of art reflect this with birds and wings, rich and colorful images of dark and light and scenarios of flying. The project will culminate with the new songs on the CD and the accompanying art pieces and prose will be featured in the CD jacket. We will celebrate Reunion’s completion at a distinguished CD release party and art show with the original art pieces displayed.
We have been in the recording studio laying down tracks with the most gifted musicians. Nick Forster has brought an exquisite musical ear and Americana sensibility along with such effortless talent. John Magnie, of the Subdudes, nicknamed “the cool factor”, has joined in with his delightful and down-home musicality. Steve Amade (also of the Subdudes) and Christian Teele bringing the inexplicable marriage of musical madness and consistency with their unusual and laid back take on drums. Greg Garrison from Leftover Salmon infusing the recording with so much soul on bass. My dear friend and musical partner, Chris Malley joins in with pristine and lovely guitar, he cowrote and plays on one of the most beautiful songs on the CD. We just had Tim O’brien in, lending his stunning vocals and fiddle/mandolin parts. There is so much more, but I want to save a few surprises for you!
This is my call to you for bringing Reunion to its full fruition. All the funds raised will go toward paying these fine musicians, my wonderful and kind producer James Tuttle, art supplies, studio costs, mixing, mastering and manufacturing of the actual CD. With your help I believe we can do it! This is how it works; you take a look at the column on the right at all the levels you can become a backer for the project. You can donate from as little as Butterfly Kisses at $5 up to Super Angel at $5,000. There are wonderful rewards that you receive at different backing levels. Because I have recorded and released 8 CDs already, I know what it takes to get the best recordings and bring the CD to completion. This project has the added complexity of writing prose and painting paintings that all need to culminate together. I have taken time off from teaching and opended up my schedule for this time period to make sure that everything is finished together and is ready to be launched in a timely fashion. The projected release date is at the beginning of 2013.
