Kansas City jazz greats entertain at a free street festival on the new Troost Avenue Bridge over Brush Creek, Saturday, May 5, 6-11 pm.
Kansas City is jazz and jazz brings people of different races together. Troost Avenue is Kansas City’s racial and economic dividing line. Meet Me at the Bridge is an evening of jazz by our local greats, performing on the dividing line in order to bridge it by bringing black and white Kansas City together. A free street fair the evening of Saturday, May 5, Meet Me at the Bridge will feature the David Basse Orchestra, Bobby Watson, and Book of Gaia with Angela Hagenbach, Nedra Dixon and Pamela Watson They will perform for five hours on the new Troost Avenue Bridge over Brush Creek (Troost Avenue at 48th Street). Kansas City Mayor Sly James, who is committed to bringing all of Kansas City together, will serve as the emcee for the evening. All the proceeds raised will be used to support the event. The event is being presented by Brush Creek Community Partners.
