About this project
BEWARE OF CUPID
Hi! We are Actors at Play, a group of artists who have decided to embark on a true labor of love. We're creating a show entitled BEWARE OF CUPID, based around Valentine's Day and made up of all original pieces related to the themes of love and relationships. The production is set for a 3-week run at The Actor's Playpen in February 2010.
Based in the Los Angeles area, all of us in the cast are actors and/or work in the entertainment industry. Although LA is where you're supposed to pursue a career in film and television, theatre is an important part of our lives (and how we all met)! For the first time, we're challenging ourselves to put on this independent production to see if this might be the first of more to come, and because we know that, all logistics aside, we just want the opportunity to create a truly fun and moving experience for both ourselves and our audience.
We're self-producing this project which means we're digging into our own pockets. We aren't just the actors in the show, we're also the production team! Because we wholeheartedly believe that we'll be able to create something truly amazing, we have dedicated our time and commitment and talent to this project.
CUPIDS' AIM
While developing a concept for the show, we imagined Cupid not as a single entity, but a variety of cupids. Some may be earnest, while others may have a few tricks up their sleeves. And what happens when a cupid is disgruntled or gets rejected?
In our show BEWARE OF CUPID, we'll present original scenes and monologues that deal with the different aspects and manifestations of love. What is it like when you really fall in love for the first time, when you struggle to make a relationship work, when you have to get over the one that got away...?
Come see the show in February and view the aftermath of our cupids' work. Maybe you'll laugh, maybe you'll cry, but there's one thing we can agree on... love is pretty complicated!
BE OUR VALENTINE!
We've set our Kickstarter goal at $3000, which will basically cover the cost of renting our theatre space. So you are, in a way, helping to provide a home for our show while receiving some fun rewards for yourself. Putting on a show is no easy feat, but we're willing to struggle through the process in order to create something that we can share with our friends and family... a valentine if you will. So won't you please be our valentine and pledge a donation?
