Karen Loftus’ Bio
Karen Loftus is an International Comedian, Writer, Journalist, Travel & Lifestyle writer (Fashion, Entertainment, Food, Spirits & Wine, Spas & Golf), Producer and Philanthropist.
Her many talents, interests and her levels of expertise in the areas of entertainment, philanthropy, fashion, food & beverage, fitness and international marketing and events have given Karen the strong, rich and multi layered background that is needed to successfully execute this project.
After globetrotting through The Middle East, Europe and Asia, entertaining expats, execs, US troops abroad and theater savvy audiences around the globe, award winning playwright, Tennessee Williams Fellow and international comedian Karen Loftus took a break from touring, slipping in to journalism, putting on the page what she once delivered onstage.
Karen worked with many of the US weeklies, In Touch, Life & Style, OK!, US Weekly, Inside TV (TV Guide) & UK's fashion savvy weekly Grazia Magazine covering all of the major award shows and red carpets for The Oscars, Grammy's, Emmy’s, AMA's, SAG, Globes and MTV VMA's. She reported on celebrity fashion, trends and events on the carpet at countless parties, premiers, pressrooms, junkets, all of the fashion shows and every fashion or celeb savvy event in LA, Vegas, Miami and Sundance.
One surreal year of covering the celeb set on Hollywood’s red carpet later, Karen ran back to the open road in search of more stamps on her passport.
As a journalist, Karen naturally found her definitive niche in travel writing, covering vino trends in travel and culinary and cocktail tourism. It was a coming home as her Irish grandparents ran a speakeasy, distilled their own spirits and ran many a famous pub and restaurant in Philadelphia. She rang in her first notable New Year’s at age five with a crisp, bubbly one.
Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia surrounded by the Irish influence she knew her way well around the bar, was a competitive golfer and acquired the gift of gab from her Dad the quintessential Shenachie (an Irish storyteller.)
On the cocktail front, she has since covered The Cocktail World Cup with the world’s top 42 bartenders in New Zealand, attended Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, the epicenter of the US spirits scene and has judged many international cocktail competitions for several brands.
This fashion forward foodie has taken great risks and gone to extreme journalistic measures on the global road, parasailing, bungee jumping, four tracking and canyoning in search of the story. Currently, she writes for a diversified portfolio, a number of high-end luxury, travel, lifestyle and fashion magazines, websites and newspapers from regional to national and international.
Along with her affinity for food & beverage, Karen also has a passion for fashion. She penned a monthly fashion column Who, What, Wear (Miami, Atlanta, Vegas & Detroit) and a quarterly trend column Trendspotting for Six Degrees Magazine, both of which she launched for the magazine. She covered red carpet fashion and trends for Lifetime TV, US, UK, Australian, New Zealand and German magazines and for the global fashion magazine Lucire where was West Coast Associate Editor for three years.
She hosted a fashion based show The Loft on IFashion TV and was Reuters on air fashion correspondent for celebrity style and red carpet fashion at The Oscars.
Through her company Loft Consulting, she worked independently with major US based and international fashion houses, traveling the globe with biannual trips to Europe and Asia, tracking global fashion and lifestyle trends that would then influence US and international lines for future seasons. Her work launched many trends for several well-known, top tier brands sold at Barney’s, Neiman’s and Sak’s.
With Loft Consulting Karen works with a number of international designers and lifestyle lines, introducing them to the US market. She builds their brand in the US and globally through celebrity branding and product placement in film and TV.
She’s produced fashion-based events, The Lofty Style Lounge in LA at with several members of US and international media outlets, celebrity and film and TV stylists and several celebrities from Desperate Housewives, High School Musical, Lost, The OC, Entourage, Nip/Tuck, CSI, Californication, The L Word, 24, Idol, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central & Access TV and many others. She’s dressed several celebs for red carpet events and TV shows.
Her background as a writer prior, she is an award winning playwright and an international comedian. Her shows It’s a Man’s Man’s, Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World, A Two Woman Show, Barbie’s Dolls, I’m Not the Blonde You Think I Am have all stormed at international theater and comedy festivals.
Her most recent show, American Woman, A One Woman Comedic Invasion was all about her international travels. www.karenloftus.net (Karen produced and promoted the international tour and secured cross promotions and sponsorship deals in each international and domestic city.)
Karen is a travel addict and is most at home when she is away from it.
In between Karen’s international touring she developed a non profit program called Body Comedy. Using humor to heal, she worked with prisoners, prostitutes, women and children, survivors of domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse in shelters, prison and centers in LA and on the road while touring. For more information: http://www.karenloftus.net/bodycomedy.htm) She has been featured in documentaries and news programs in the US, UK, and Asia for her work, called a Women to Watch by Ms Magazine and a Rebel With a Cause by CNBC.
Karen’s taking her rich and interesting background, her many passions and bringing them all together to weave in to this one female driven travel and lifestyle website. There is nothing like this on the web or in print. It is definitively her irreverent yet impassioned vision and voice, with a global scope that speaks to many women from all walks of life.
The title for the site is set as are the many rich and interesting subsections, none of which are released here. It wills be revealed once the site is launched.
There are many multi media aspects to the site. It will be a global interactive community of hip, adventurous, risk-taking, interesting women independent in mind and in spirit.
