Day Two - Terre Aux Boeufs
Shot today on Terre Aux Boeufs (both a beautiful place and my favorite bayou name). Started at pipeline canal about 5 miles out past the end of the road. This is the canal that stretches all the way to open water and feeds the refinery near Shell Beach. We then made our way back up Terre Aux Boeufs popping up and down all of the feeder canals. Saw a few crocodile and a lot of beautiful birds. Also sites where all the trees have died off and the edges of the canal are massively undercut.
Stopped at Joe's doc (he waived us over when he saw we were from New Mexico). He told us that thirty years ago when he moved to the area, the whole land behind his house was an oak forest. There is only scrub brush there now. He talked of cuts that were 20 feet wide a dozen years ago that are now over half a mile across now.
He was peeling shrimp and throwing the shells and heads into the bayou. Mullet and tiny bait fish were swarming the food. I got a few good shots (along with a bunch of others from the day). Probably will take tomorrow off (I am exhausted) and retool before heading back out Friday.
4 days left till the project closes. Picked up envelopes for the 8" x 8" prints today. Still have a bunch left of the editions. If you know someone who might be interested point them this direction.
