id.id.id.entity: a solo exhibition is about constructed identity and human experiences.
When I first conceptualized id.id.id.entity, it stemmed from a place of personal experiences and the questioning of how one's identity is formed. As the body of work evolved, personal recollections took on meanings that could be applied to anyone’s life. The focus of this exhibition is to examine the interplay of fixed and unfixed meanings and how they interject themselves into each of our identities.
The solo exhibition is monumental for me and will serve as my first large-scale gallery exhibition. I've had the opportunity to exhibit throughout the country -- but being granted an 800sq ft space will truly allow me to push my concepts on greater level. This will also be the first I have exhibited work combining all of my backgrounds: printmaking, sculpture, drawing and painting. I am beyond excited to have the freedom and space to create a more progressive and experimental body of work.
Thank you all -- I appreciate everyone’s support in making this happen!
The show will open on December 16, 2012, at the Marilyn Werby Gallery, in Long Beach, CA.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I will be working non-stop until the exhibition opens. Between teaching, going to school, and making my own work; art is present in every aspect of my life. The main challenges for making the exhibition a success: time and capital. A portion of the work to be included in this show will be cast in resin. Between the cost of resin and mold material required to pour multiple objects, the expenses are piling up quickly. As of now, I have not abandoned my intent of using resin, which is a key component of this installation. The other challenges are finding a means to move a 300lb cast iron bathtub and 400lbs of railroad ties. These items will be precarious to move and suspend, which is why I will be hiring people to help me install them. Despite the challenges this project may pose, I’m driven to make it succeed and very grateful for any support you as backers wish to contribute. I’ve been a working artist for the past 6 years and know that being in the arts is a constant challenge in itself. In order to distribute my time evenly, I have set the delivery date for the rewards to be for February 2013. This will allow enough time for the exhibition to take place and for the artworks to be made with quality.
Thank you all for believing in art and being catalysts behind my latest work!
