Dwayne's depressed. In order to feel something, anything, he starts wearing a full body skin tight Superman costume.
Dwayne's Super is a 52 page floppy comic book. The book is hand drawn then scanned and colored in photoshop with transparent black, blue and gray on a creamy background. So it's basically 3 colors.
The story is about Dwayne, he's depressed, so he starts wearing a full body skin tight Superman suit. He lives in a small town and people either hate it or love it. He starts working at his father's grocery store (Dwayne's Super) after his dad's health begins to deteriorate. This forced interaction with the townsfolk creates awkward and funny situations, since he wears this costume everyday.
I always loved the collected stories in Daniel Clowes Eightball, Seth's Palookaville, Adrian Tomine's Optic Nerve, Chris Ware's Acme Novelty Library and was hoping to follow in their footsteps. Self-publishing some floppies and eventually getting a publisher to collect them into a graphic novel. But I need your help...it takes a village.
I have written out the entire story, but have only illustrated the first quarter. So this first book is just part 1. I have 3 more parts to follow, then hopefully a collected 200 page graphic novel in the end. I submitted what I have done to several publishers and have received positive feedback. But they also said with the economy they're not taking on any new talent. One actually suggested I do a kickstarter campaign, duh, why didn't I think of that. So here it is.
If you're interested you can check out the first 5 pages here.
