"Gliding" is all mixed and we are homing in on the final sequence (order of the songs) before we send it off to Airshow Mastering in Boulder CO. It sounds fabulous! The CD design is underway and I will be placing the order to manufacture the CDs in the next few days. I will be launching a new campaign using another crowdfunding platform to raise money for the CD duplication and mastering expenses. You will get an email inviting you to join the new campaign.
I am so grateful to all of you for enabling me to start working on this CD. You are the ones who gave me the push to get going and start the process.
I am very happy and honored to announce that "Black Water", one of the songs on the new CD has been selected as a finalist in the Discoveries 2012 Playlist Competition. You can listen to the final mix (I think) of my song and the other songs in the playlist at http://meowonline.org/discoveries/.
Tomorrow I head back in into the studio for a session with Glenn Fukanaga, a local bass hero. He will put bass tracks on the 3 songs which up till now have remained bass - less. Then there will be a little editing here and there and Bradley Kopp will mix the songs.
I am thinking about the title of the CD - candidates right now are "String Of Pearls" and "Gliding". Both are strong songs on the CD. And I am starting to think about the design for the CD case. It's all very exciting!
Gliding is the title of the last song we are recording for the new CD. It's a catchy upbeat song about letting go of struggle and letting something greater move me, using the metaphor of a boat. It is sounding great! We have a bass player scheduled for July 3rd to finish out a few songs, then it's on to mixing and mastering. Here are a couple of photos from my last session. Bradley Kopp, engineer and co-producer of this CD laid down some beautiful guitar parts. I did lead and harmony vocals and Brad sang harmony too. I can't wait for you to hear it!
This week Javier Chaparro came in to do violin parts on "De Colores" and "Angelitos". And Joel Guzman laid down accordion on "Angelitos" and piano on "I Got Plenty" and "Future One and Only". Both of these guys are brilliant and tasteful players and it was such an honor and a pleasure to have them working on the CD.
I have finished the cookbook and emailed a pdf to all of my wonderful backers who donated $25 or more. Tomorrow I will go into the studio to start working on "Angelitos", a song I wrote earlier this year about the drug related violence in Mexico.
I am so grateful to all of you for your support. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, whatever way you celebrate the season, and a peaceful and joyous new year.
