Hey, folks! I'm making a new record. And this time, it's gonna be the real deal.

HISTORY (FOR THOSE WHO ENJOY THAT KIND OF THING):

If you've kept up with me over the years, you might already know that I have a somewhat compulsive habit of writing songs. At the end of every nine months or so, I usually like to take inventory of the little buggers and churn out a self-made album of sorts to share with the world. And this was pretty sweet for a while.

But after some time, I got the definite sense that something was missing. After reflecting on my glory days in high school athletics (sweet adolescence), I realized that the moments that seemed to shine the brightest in my memory were the ones in which I accomplished something while surrounded by a group like-passioned people. Team victories were always sweeter than personal ones. 

So a question dawned on me: why go at this music thing alone? 

When I started thinking about how I wanted to approach yet another project, I reservedly threw out my conventions and began seeking out those people around me I knew would be a great fit for this project--producers, players, engineers, artists, photographers, friends--and signed them up to join the team. 

And now I'm bringing the ball to your court; I want you on my team, too. The reason I'm asking listeners to help fund this record is because the more people working together to make this happen, the prouder I think everyone will be in the end, myself included. It's like winning the state championship.

KICKSTARTER:

What is kickstarter?

They're a group of people who help ambitious folks like us meet our financial goals for dream projects. In essence, they're enabling me to let fans actually pay for the record before I start recording, in exchange for personalized goods and services from me. They offer a wide range of ways to contribute, as well as many tiers of goodies and rewards.

GOAL: 

I'm asking for $3,000 to cover most studio, tracking, and mixing expenses. If total contributions exceed this goal, I will use the surplus to finish paying off the above costs, and will also (depending on the amount over) use it for mastering and manufacturing costs. We will have thirty days to reach the goal of $3,000, and if the goal isn't met, none of the money goes through.

SONGS:

Since I want to do this record right, I've decided to pull from my entire catalogue of songs to create an all-star line up for a track list. I'm calling it a "starting over" of sorts. Only the best songs will make it, new or old, so they've been feeling a lot of pressure lately.

This is also why I need your help! It's very important to me that I believe in the same songs you're believing in. So check the list in the bottom right-hand corner to find special packages where you can VOTE UPON WHICH SONGS MAKE THE RECORD. If you choose to help in this way, a list of 20 top songs will be sent to you, as well as instructions about how to vote. It's then up to you to narrow the list down to twelve, arrange the songs in your favorite order, and send them in for submission. If you love a song that's not in the top 20, feel free to recommend it for consideration.

Lastly, you guys are awesome. Thanks for all the ways you've already poured into my life--I wish I could count them all. Even if the project doesn't go through, I know we'll still find a way to make this record happen, because we're playing on the same team now.
