More Neat Postcards, In Case You're Interested

Update #14 · Dec 11, 2012 · comment

Hi, Kickstarter backers!

This isn't directly related to the Animal Alphabet project, but I figure some of you are postcard aficionados and may be interested. I'll try to be brief.

Along with the extra copies of the Animal Alphabet cards, I have put another set of postcards in my Storenvy shop.

This set is a ten-page story set in a fantasy milieu. (The protagonist is a sort of an apprentice wizard; there are odd creatures including a dog-headed man and a group of shadowy demons) The story is set up so that each postcard is a separate chunk of the story, and each card ends with a moment of narrative suspense.

They're designed to be sent, serialized, about once a week over a span of ten weeks, and you can order a set for me to send you in that way, or you can order (for less money) a set that you yourself can serialize to a correspondent.

Some of you have seen these cards already. The new printing is on a different paper stock, a little glossier and a little sturdier than all my previous printings. They really do look and feel great. If you order this week, I should be able to ship in time for Christmas.

Happy Holidays to you all!

Isaac

How to Get More Animal Alphabet Postcards

Update #13 · Nov 23, 2012 · 3 comments

Happy "Black Friday," Kickstarter backers!

Nearly every one of you should have received your Kickstarter rewards by now. (For a few of you who were slated to receive original art, materials only shipped about a week ago, so there may be a few delayed items in the mail here or there. Also, if you're getting original art by Henry Eudy, you already know that it's not quite in my possession yet, but it'll be in the mail to you very soon.)

Shipping all the rewards out has been a long process, and maybe the part of the Kickstarter process that I underestimated the most. But it's over (or nearly over) now.

I hope you're enjoying your postcards—and, especially if you received more than one set, I hope you have been sending them to people who have enjoyed them, too. If you're doing anything particularly cool with them, I hope you'll leave a response to this update to tell us what you've been up to.

I was able to print a few more sets of the cards than I will need for my own use, so I've made a website with Storenvy as a shop for the extras. If you are interested, or if you know someone else who might be, here's a link to that storefront:

http://satisfactorypress.storenvy.com/

I'll be raising the price to "cover price" later, but for now they are "on sale" for $7.50 per set.

I hope your fall holidays are going well!

Where's my postcards? you ask

Update #11 · Sep 23, 2012 · 3 comments

This is just a brief update to let you know that I have all but two of the ingredients for sending out the rewards now. Well, really all but three.

I am still waiting to get the screen-printed obis, which should be ready on Tuesday or Wednesday. I had a set done a week and a half ago, but it turned out that I had underestimated the thickness of the card stacks, and the designs on the obi just didn't fit. So I ordered new paper, tweaked the graphics, and delivered a new order to the screen-printing shop. I want to include at least one of these two-tone obis in each of the reward packages, so I won't be shipping anything until next week.

I am also lacking some of the time I need to collate the card stacks. The cards (which look great, by the way) came from the printers in individual stacks: a stack of A is for Aardvark and Alpaca, a stack of B is for Bison and Budgerigar, and so forth. It takes me a little over an hour to collate sixty sets. I will do some more as soon as I have the two-tone obis.

The third thing I am sort of missing: a few of you still haven't completed the surveys to give me your mailing addresses (and sticker preferences). Please, if you haven't done this, spend the two minutes it'll take. I'd love to be able to send every reward in a given category all at once.

Thanks again for supporting this project. Expect to see stuff in the mail soon!

At the Printers (Ready Next Week!)

Update #10 · Sep 9, 2012 · 1 comment

I've been meaning to post a quick update for several days now. In a little while, I will be sending out surveys to collect your address (so I can send your rewards to the right place). I'll also ask if you have a favorite sticker (everyone gets a sheet), so I can try to get you a sheet you'll like.

Right now, everything is at the printers. I'm supposed to get the stickers from Moo on Tuesday, the cards themselves from Queen City Printers on Wednesday, and the two-color obis from Unknown Arts on Friday. Early on Saturday morning, I'll be taking some extras to the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, MD to sell them to convention attendees at the "Alphabet Press" booth.

I've seen the press proofs for the postcards, and they look terrific. (I'm posting a lame cameraphone image of them below, but believe me: when I saw the proofs, the vividness of the color really surprised me. I think they're going to look really nice.)

I've also been doing some test prints of the "belly-band" or obi with animal silhouettes in gray. Because I'm doing these myself, I can use some fun paper. Most of them will be on colored paper (maybe with a texture, but without a pattern). I'm just running a few odd ones because printing at home allows me to do that.

In the stickers, you'll see the following animals (and you may want to refer to this image when I ask you about your favorites):

Dodo, Rhino, Jerboa, Isopods, Naked Mole Rat

Quindio Glass Frog, Manatee, Indri, Octopus, Budgerigar

Numbat, Ulysses Butterfly, Sea Turtle
