Update #2: Second half, here we come!

Posted on September 29, 2009

1. THANKS! – Thank you backers and promoters! I'm excited that at the halfway point, the project is nearly half-funded. They say most pledges come at the very end, so we are definitely on track for success. I'll be stepping up the updates during the second half of this campaign, so hopefully there will be interesting things you can share with your networks as we keep getting the word out.
2. Video woes solved – If you were unable to view the video, I uploaded it to YouTube, so please check it out!
3. Aww – I was heartened to read this blog post from These Little Piggies Had Tofu. Here is the best part:

Anyway, this site is what caused me to realize that honey wasn't vegan (yes, I realize that statement contradicts my previous statements ... like I said, it's confusing and I'm dishonest) and that I couldn't justify eating it anymore. It's an in depth look at honey "production" and the moral implications as it relates to veganism and animal rights. It was illuminating.

And once I read that page, it was easy to stop eating honey. Here's how I did it:

I stopped eating honey.

I just wanted to share that as an example of the kind of impact the page has. Oh, and thanks to the anonymous commenter who linked to this project. It wasn't me – if I self-promote, make it clear I'm self-promoting. :)
4. Wikipedia – Didn't think to mention this earlier, but another reason why updating the site is important is because one of the top referral sites to it is Wikipedia. Linked from both the Vegetarianism and Honey articles, the site reaches a general audience, so we want to look sharp! Again, thanks to whomever cited the site (well, I guess...surely that's where many of the angry beekeepers come from!).

I'm working on a page for the updated site that is coming along nicely; I'll post that here as soon as it's ready. Take care!
