The GOTH love (and the occasional donation) keeps on coming!
Still want to donate to My Summer as a Goth? Here’s our new secure PayPal! Go to our website at www.mysummerasagoth.com and click on the "donate" button.
And of course to all of you who already donated, we send continued gratitude!!
We have received several inquiries recently from brand new fans of My Summer as a Goth, folks who want to donate to our Kickstarter fundraiser but can’t now that the fundraising period is over. Hence, we established the PayPal account to accept further generous donations.
Please know we will continue to honor the benefits of the Kickstarter fundraiser at every donation level, as listed in our campaign terms. We are offering some cool prizes as our small way of thanking everyone for donating to our little dream.
We are thrilled to continue to receive this kind of attention and generosity. We are still in the development phase of this project and every penny counts. Yes, development is taking a long time—we hear ya!—but we are taking as long as we need to get it right. We’ve heard about, and learned from, the horror stories of other filmmakers who didn’t get it right going in and had to pay for it later.
Current GOTH To-Do’s: We’re using the next month or two to work with our Line Producer to develop our new budget, make any script changes as necessary to achieve that, reach out to prospective distributors, and create an attractive, realistic, viable investment package.
Tara will be hitting the Ashland Film Festival in April to connect with filmmakers and movers and shakers. Brandon wrote his first treatment this week and will work on trimming the script as necessary, and will develop the written materials for the investment package/business plan (specifically, detailing all the benefits of investing in an Oregon-filmed indie, IOPIF, rebates, Section 181 tax incentives, etc).
We are both excited to be receiving continued financial support as we develop this film, because it means we can do things like go to the LA film market in November to seek out additional investors/distributors and market GOTH, possibly hit Sundance next year (more networking), and even begin some photography this summer- we are hoping to shoot the 4th of July parade in Ashland.
These are all things we couldn’t do without our amazing donors! And they all contribute to us being able to make the best possible film we can.
We have also received a handful of inquiries about what investment in MSAAG would look like—what the entry level amount is for investors, what is the projected rate of return and timeframes, and so on. We still have to meet with our lawyers on this one! But something we do want to clarify: donations to MSAAG are not tax-deductible nor will donors who give money either through Kickstarter or PayPal be repaid for their donations (except maybe in hugs).
We are working on our investment terms and are happy to engage in those initial conversations with anyone who’s ready and believes enough in our project to see the potential personal financial gain here. We are going to make a really cool little movie that a lot of people already want to see. Plus we are hearing reports that Goth is a growing trend in Japan- that is a huge market we didn’t even anticipate reaching when we first started making this film.
In future updates, we will be happy to share more of the specifics about what it takes to truly invest in the film. For now, we just want you to know how grateful we are for your donation to My Summer as a Goth and for your many words of encouragement.
Next weekend we hit the Vampire Masquerade Ball—oh, the places we didn’t know we’d go! We are excited to attend and get the word out, and see Gothic Charm School’s Jillian Venters. We will be promoting GOTH, selling t-shirts and stickers, creating a mailing list, and hopefully taking more donations to help us get our funny, sweet flick MADE.
Many thanks & happy spring to you all,
Tara & Brandon
