A few years back, Chef Jeff, a former animal protein sales manager and culinary consultant, had recently become unemployed and needed something to do with his time and energy. He wanted to do a BBQ stand as there was a slow cooker sitting idly in the driveway. Her name was Rose, an 18' Texas style, off set smoker on a trailer. Seeing old "Rose" looking so neglected, we dusted her off and started playing around with plant based bbq items. We realized the traditional methods of good slow smoked Q had to stay, the sides would be all there, but we would have to rise to the challenge of using vegetable proteins to create traditional style BBQ items. Homegrown Smoker Natural Vegan Barbecue was opened in April of 2009 on a gravel lot in NE Portland. 

 In April of 2010 we reopened with a new Food Cart/ concession stand in our current location in downtown Portland, Oregon. Support from the community has been great and business continues to grow. We have decided it is time to take our little family BBQ business to the next level open a second location. We purchased a fine cart, Now all we need to do is equip it with stoves, grills, sinks, hood system and all the other items needed to have a ship shape rig to serve you out of. It's a bit like a puzzle, but with all the right pieces together, we can create a second location from which vegan smokey deliciousness can be prepared and shared with all those willing. Our hope is to hit our goal in order to be open on the east side of Portland by April 2012.
