April Wright

Connected as April Wright (690 friends)

April Wright went to drive-ins growing up and wanted to know what happened to them. Americans are crazy about cars and movies, so why have so many drive-ins disappeared?

She started work on the documentary "Going Attractions" in 2005 and has funded the entire project out of her own pocket. It's been a long road, but she's excited to see the film nearing completion. She traveled the country multiple times in order to film almost 500 open, abandoned, and former sites of drive-ins in every state (except Alaska.)

April and this documentary have had amazing support from the United Drive-in Theater Owners Association and its members who own and operate the nearly 400 remaining open drive-in theaters across the country, and like her, they believe the story of the drive-in needs to be told. As a result of her work on the film, April has done television, radio and print interviews to help get the word out about drive-ins and the film Going Attractions.

"What I didn't know when I started the project, is that there's a drive-in resurgence happening with new ones being built and old ones being re-opened all over the country. But the numbers aren't rising because an equal number are still being demolished each year, and with the cost to convert to digital projection, even more are at risk.

The most important message is to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL DRIVE-IN. If you're lucky enough to have one nearby, be sure to visit it frequently! They thrive when they are supported by the local community."
